I currently have the Dell G15 5511 gaming laptop with an Intel core i7-11800h and a rtx 3060 which I got 2 years ago for $1,350. I have some pros and cons about this laptop. One pro is that it’s not too heavy to carry around when traveling. My second pro is that the screen is not bad quality and is somewhat decent. My third pro is that the refresh rate is not too bad for example in Fortnite with all settings low I get 300 fps but that’s still not the best. My cons are that I used to play Roblox and BeamNG and it crashed a ton when I played them. My second con is that a month after I got it, the motherboard broke and had to get replaced. And my third con is that the graphics card wasn’t enough for me. It would have extremely high ping and low fps on high quality settings and games. It will work but not be the best experience. It’s my understanding that the G15 seriously limits the power available for the GPU and CPU much more than a similar specced Alienware laptop. So basically your 3060 will perform about as good as a desktop 980ti, if that. No worries as long as you stay with graphically simple games like Beat Saber and such. Just don’t expect to be able to play flight and racing sims without lowering your super sampling resolution well below 100% or you’ll likely suffer much reprojection. More on reddit.com

I will say that my 5511 does not get that hot. While playing an intense game, I have the fans on around 50% and the CPU doesn't go over 80-82C. I also had the issue with G-Mode staying at 100% the first time using it. Using the key doesn't work to turn it off. It worked when I manually went into ACC and changed it to quiet mode. Weird it's not working for you. Maybe uninstall/reinstall? More on reddit.com

Utter Crap. My supervisor got two of these, one for work to replace my Dead laptop, and one personal to give his daughter a laptop. Mine - Power started acting up on the Laptop. Dell come in replace MB. Near the end of the Warranty the laptop simply died, needing to send it to Dell to get it repaired. (By this time the the other Laptop that was bought for his Daughter was having similar issues to mine) Worked for 9 more months, and once again the MB is screwing up. I am not able to unplug it and have it go to battery. It just shuts down and won't boot till I disconnect the Battery and reconnect it. Which has been the problem I am having all along.

I was thinking about buying the Valve Index, but I wanted to make sure my laptop could run it before I buy. I could not find a post that covered my laptop specifically and posts covering similar laptops seem to give conflicting answers, if there is one about my specific laptop that I missed, please let me know, and the software "Are you ready for Valve index" came back with the answer, "Perhaps" despite my system checking all the boxes. The following relevant specs are: 1 TB SSD, 32 GB DDR4 Ram, 11gen Intel Core i7, NVidia GeForce rtx 3060 6GB GDDR6, and a USB-C port. I know that the Index isn't compatible with HDMI to DisplayPort so my question is, can a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter work, if so, which one should I get? I remember reading something about needing a certain verson of BIOS to make sure the USB-C goes through the graphics card and not the processor in a post regarding a different laptop.
So is my laptop capable of handling the Valve index, if yes please let me know what other adapters, equipment, software, etc. that I will need. Or let me know that it won't work for this Laptop. Thank you for reading.

Remember laptop parts are not the same as PC besides name as they’re a lot weaker. “Perhaps” on the Steam test is a bad sign as even bad PCs get past that saying it’s ready. Use the money you’d spend on the Index on a PC and then buy a headset in the future.
