It's fine. I use Android studio, Visual Studi 2017 C WPF, eclipse, netbeans, WSL2 and PHP 8.0 MYSQL using podman on Fedora Remix til today on i7-2670qm, it still run fine. Just if you can try to push the price down to 350 EUR, it will definitely ok.
Other than that even 1st gen i7 is fine just you must bare with the heat. Mine sometimes overheat when building some apk. Sometimes I opt using ionic and use capacitor so I only need to built it when want to directly run on mobile device.
For VM I do use Hyper-V, because I turned on WSL2, it's fine with RHEL or other, still working well.

Seems pretty cheap to me, for a large screen, low power CPU from the second to latest gen with very acceptable RAM/Storage config, especially on a professional line and all metal range (it looks metal on the palmrest at least). Great mobile performer with hopefully long battery. Only thing lacking is for gpu-accelerated tasks but at that price one can't complain much, and if you don't use it anyway, that's more battery and less heat. More on reddit.com

I currently own a gen 10 i7 laptop, but my current specs do not have a GPU, and it is capped at 16 GB RAM.
I have the ability to upgrade to a 4 GB GPU, 32 GB RAM, gen 9 i7 PC for cheap, however, the generation of the CPU is holding me back. The new PC would have 1 TB SSD versus 512 GB on my current laptop.
Is it an upgrade worth it, or should I shell out more to buy a laptop with a newer gen CPU? I will be using this for data science (locally too). I will be moving from a 13-inch HP Envy to a 15-inch Dell Precision.
edit: I will not be using this for gaming, but will be using this for scientific computing. The reason for looking for a shift is crappy hardware from HP, horrible aluminium deterioration (unnatural), and a misshaped metal body (this last part is my fault).
