May 26, 2017 - I think the wording in that chart must be incorrect because the light flashes happen on the battery LED, which seems to be called the power LED sometimes. The situation is that it does 3 amber, 5 white followed by 3 amber, 3 white. The chart says that the sequence will be repeated, but in this case it's two different sequences. Also, the chart says the blinks can go up to 9, but the chart doesn't have entries for higher than 3/4. ... Unknown. we cannot replicate the issue on the two XPS 15 9560 in the lab (BIOS 1.3.3, 16GB ram, i7-7700HQ).

Temporary fix/Workaround: Hard Reset Turn off the laptop. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery or simply remove the base cover and disconnect the battery cable. Disconnect all devices such as USB drives, printers, webcams, and media cards (SD/xD). Press and hold the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to drain the residual power. Connect the AC adapter and battery. Turn on the computer. If you still need assistance, please contact support by clicking the ‘Get Help Now’ button located at the bottom right corner of the page. Exactly same problem here. Everything was fine one day and the next day the battery doesn't hold any charge at all anymore. Blinking orange light and shuts down when cable is removed. I've run the diagbostics which gave the following Error code: 2000-0132 Validation: 73590 This indicates a battery malfunction. I contacted Dell and they said my pro-support warranty won't cover it as batteries are supposed to have a life time. I agree batteries are expected to slowly get bad with time, but this is not what happened here. It went from fully functional to not holding any charge from one day to another. I think the fact that many people are having the same problem more or less simultaneously indicates this is possibly a design flaw.

That sounds like a bad battery indication and more so since the system shuts down when the adapter is unplugged. In that case the cure is to replace the battery with a new genuine Dell battery. You can run diagnostics and the battery should indicate as bad. At the Dell splash screen start tapping F12 and run full diagnostics. Watch for battery errors.

Hello, hopefully you guys can help me with this issue. I read the Dell forum about this issue with the bios saying the battery needs replaced. I bought a new battery from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DG1TZ4P?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). I replaced the battery with the new one plugged it in make sure the light was no longer blinking and it was not. I power it on and let the battery die out (I left) while playing a video on YouTube. I come back home plug it in; it is now blinking orange again. I checked the bios it says the NEW battery needs replaced. I cannot power the laptop on without the laptop being plugged in (same issue as before). Yes, the power adapter is identified as the correct power adapter. Does anyone have a solution? Or know where to go from here as I can not find anything on here or forums to help fix this issue. Thank you guys.

Try this: Disconnect the old battery cable. Press the power button for about 40 seconds. With battery cable still disconnected, power the laptop with just A/C adapter, start and login into windows. Let all the startup apps/drivers finish loading (takes a minute of two). Then shut down the laptop. Remove the A/C plug. Press the power button for about 40 seconds again. Remove the old battery. Install the new battery. The laptop should now detect the new battery.

That light sequence indicates a bad battery. When you installed another battery, was it a genuine Dell battery as non Dell batteries can cause that problem. Also try a reset. Disconnect the battery and unplug the adapter. Then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try again.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. The battery is supposed to be genuine and looks exactly the same as the original one. It is properly recognized by Dell Command Power Manager, which does not indicate any issue with the battery. In the detailed infos, it says the battery is a Dell battery manufactured by LG. But the serial number looks a bit strange (only 4 hex digits). I tried your reset procedure, it did not change anything :-(

So, I've had my XPS for ~3 years. I've had nothing but problems with it. So, I went to go open it today and plug it in and lo and behold! Another issue.
The LED light on the bottom behind the touchpad started blinking orange and white. It blinks orange twice and white once and goes blank for awhile. Sometimes the power button turns on and then the battery button turns white and then stay on a few seconds, and then they go back out. There is no screen image. I can sometimes hear the fan running. If I hold the power button for 20 seconds, the battery light turns on, stays on for a few seconds, then turns off again. It's a cycle. I've never once had an issue with my charging cable. I have tried different outlets. I tried holding the power button and whacking F2. Nothing.
Nothing works. And I don't have the right type of screwdriver to open up the back. I don't have a way of going to get one. I also have 3 exams tomorrow. I am extremely freaking angry right now and I am doing everything in my power to hold it together and not scream and break this $1,250 piece of garbage over my knee.

I was using my laptop this morning, using Arch Linux, and, suddenly, the screen turned off and I believe the laptop turned off too.
Every single time I press the start button there is an orange light in the front of the touchpad and it does not turn on, like it can be seen on the attached video.

Unplug the charger. Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. Reconnect AC and try again. If that fails, remove the battery, repeat the above steps. The battery may be on its way out.

How many times white and how many times amber? It could signify any number of problems as indicated on this chart. I would be calling Dell tech support as this may be a simple or a serious problem. And yes I would consider returning as a new system should not be experiencing possible hardware problems.

A corrupted BIOS from the factory is really not something you should have to try and remedy. I would call Dell tech support and let them determine a course of action. The BIOS can possibly be recovered but on a new system how much time and effort do you want to expend on a system that should have worked fine out of the box. This web site gives you an indication as to what is entailed in recovering the BIOS.
