The idea that with quantitative research "There’s no bias involved" is 100% incorrect (#7 on the list of Advantages of Quantitative Research). In fact, quantitative methods will often amplify any bias when it comes to data collection and/or sampling (e.g., survivorship bias). Putting research on a single spectrum (quant vs. qual) always strikes me as overly simplistic. There probably needs to be a 2nd or 3rd axis (e.g., observed vs. self-reported, natural behavior vs. "lab"/scripted, inductive vs. deductive, momentary vs. longitudinal) to make things more useful. Your introduction should open by explaining the importance of research in various fields, then introduce qualitative and quantitative research as two distinct but equally important methods. They require vastly different backgrounds and specializations. I can barely work my way through R and SPSS, but I’ve got interviewing techniques down to a science and know a few different theoretical lenses for each different topic we’re interviewing on. I’ve also got a better grasp of philosophy, psychoanalysis, and applied rhetoric than most of my peers. We all have our specialties. If you want to learn qualitative methods the best way is to join a qualitative lab and just immerse yourself in it. Or, play to your strengths and make friends. Either way works. More on reddit.com
