I often hear from other prople that only kids are interested in dinosaurs. I don't know what to think about it, but it kinda annoys me because I love dinos. What do you think about it?

If it would be only for kids we wouldn’t have any knowledge as no paleontologist would be working on dinosaurs.

If abandoning interests is part of growing up, then just don't lol Dinosaurs are cool. Kids know it, we know it. If anything, judging interests and fields of study while telling people what they should or shouldn't like seems decidedly more childish to me.

Was it the Jurassic Park series? Seems funny to me how people who are into dinosaurs are seen as "immature" :D

Yeah i don't get that, people look at you weird because you are fascinated with dinosaurs, but talking about modern animals isn't seen as immature. And like, don't they realize palentology exists? That people dig up fossils, and study them?

Like the aforementioned AskHistorians thread said, it seems to be marketing. Dinosaurs weren't really "for kids", but after companies started making dinosaur toys for children to play with after the 50's they started to be marketed at them too. They are copyright-free, have variety etc.., so it was an area to invest in. Even Jurassic Park already had a boy who loved dinosaurs, showing this trend was already there — speaking of which, while it is suitable to older children, the Jurassic franchise is actually pretty grim in terms of violence, but the merchandising was still largely directed at children with toys and the such. Heck, there an idea once of making toys for Alien, which is a movie much more violent and focused on horror than Jurassic Park. I would say that dinosaurs are still popular with adults though, see how popular the Jurassic World films are in the box office. It's just that interest in them is seen as immature.

I teach abroad at a kindergarten and in November we have created stories, song cards (to go with youtube video songs), and videos from YouTube the kids can look up at home most related to dinosaurs. Some vocabulary words we are practicing will be t-rex, stegosaurus, triceratops, pterodactyl, brontosaurus, fossil, caveman, cave, paleontologist.

Songs I will be teaching/showing - Dinosaur makes new friends, Five Wolly Mammoths

Suggested movies - Jurassic park, Jurassic world, Dinosaurs! with Fred Savage

I also looked up sounds of dinosaurs put them on a CD. The students listen and guess what dinosaur sounds they heard.

This isn't going to be the most scientific look at dinosaurs. It is more just to use and learn English while talking about dinosaurs. I was wondering what songs or youtube videos/movies you think kids would like. Thanks for any help.

I HIGHLY recommend AGAINST Jurassic Park/Wolrd for kindergarteners. You’ll have a lot of ticked off parents. They are NOT movies for 5 year olds. As someone else suggested, Dino Dan/Dino Dana are PERFECT for that age group. I’m pretty sure my 3 year old son already wants to marry Dino Dana, lol.

A tool that allows you to directly compare a dinosaurs' size with other animals seems like a neat tool. You could choose from a cat, human, and elephant and show how a dinosaur compares to them. Perhaps an option to directly compare two dinosaurs could be fun
