Hi all So, I (finally!) got spousal approval to build a firepit in my backyard. I know that the max size of the pit allowed by my town is 36" (I am not sure if they mean inside diameter, or outside diameter--will be confirming this). More on doityourself.com
Converting propane fire pit to natural gas fire pit
Have you tried researching your particular pit for this question? In general you’re right, propane is heavier than air and will settle where as natural gas wants to dissipate up into the surrounding atmosphere. While you should be ok with your setup, I would recommend identifying your pit by make and model if possible and researching the specifics for it when converting. More on reddit.com

The sell steel fire rings. You put the fire ring down and build the stone part around it. When the steel ring rusts out you just pull it out and put in a new one. It's pretty easy. Use fire proof mortar so the heat won't crack it.

So, I am looking at 'fire rings' and 'fire pit liners'... I am torn between a heavy gauge options (this one: Heavy Gauge Option) or a cheaper option, which would also have air holes, so the fire would get more draft (this one: Cheaper Option) I guess I am wondering how must air I need to introduce in this.
