I stay on Steam because of ease of use and features. The workshop, community guides, friends, community, etc. Almost all the games I play are available there too, or will be eventually. Note that you don't need to buy games from Steam directly, there are many 3rd party sellers that sell Steam keys. You can check deals on isthereanydeal , which will give you the cheapest price for any game you want from legitimate sellers. The other service I use is GOG. It doesn't really have the features of Steam, but it offers DRM free games and installers for them, meaning you can play them any time, anywhere, without an internet connection. They also include a lot of old games that aren't found on Steam, and make them playable on modern PCs. Also you should know about Game Pass you can get through Windows. It's a subscription service that gives you access to a lot of games on a recurring monthly basis. You don't own them, but can play anything you want as long as the subscription is active. I mostly use Steam to download my games. Download Steam, then with that app you can buy and download everything else. I don't use a controller, I use my mouse and keyboard. (I do use a fancy "MMO" mouse that has 12 additional thumb buttons. But that's just personal preference.) I don't modify my PC in any way. ........I do mod a lot of my games though if possible.
