Dwarf Mini Smart Telescope – Review & Tutorial – Wido's AstroForum
November 15, 2025 - And here is my final one-hour image of the Pleiades, processed in PixInsight, an advanced astrophotography processing program. Considering this was taken under urban, light-polluted skies with a 30 mm aperture smart telescope, I think the result is pretty respectable for just one hour of integration time. r/telescopes on Reddit: A few images from the Dwarf Mini for Discussion
December 3, 2025 -

Hey Everyone, just thought I'd post a few images from the Dwarf Mini since I realize there's not too many of them out in the wild right now. M42 and M31 were captured using the default settings (15 second exposures / 60 gain). M42 was done in EQ mode (about 45 minutes from Van Nuys). M31 was done in AZ mode (about an hour from downtown Halifax). The sun was 20 exposures. M42 was auto-processed within the app (using stellar studio). M31 image is unprocessed. Sun is unprocessed.

It would be interesting to see how you think these compare to other smart telescopes. I've posted a couple short videos on my YouTube channel regarding these, and I think Sunshine Nate is about to post a long video (that includes me capturing the M42 image below) so look out for those videos.

M42 (Orion Nebula) from somewhere near North Hollywood (used Sunshine Nate's Dwarf Mini) M31 (Should have used EQ mode, but wanted to test default settings) Dec 1st, 2025 Sun (20 exposures, the app did the work, I didn't manually tell it to stack them) Testing some daytime photography at Big Sur (still need to download the image from the Dwarf)

Need help deciding if I should get the dwarf mini smart telescope or stick with the camera I already have?
The Dwarf and Seestar smart telescopes are very popular. They are popular because you can get good-to-great images easily for a low cost compared to a full blown AP setup. That being said, besides a few third party accessories like filters, they are not upgradable. So if after a year or two of use, you might decide you want to try different focal lengths and will not be able to do so with either device. As for your camera, it is perfectly capable and can produce good images, but you will likely want different lenses (the Rokinon/Samyang 135mm lens is popular for AP ~$500). While it is possible to image on a tripod, you will likely want a star tracker. Those can cost anywhere between $300 and $900, depending on the capabilities. Even the best star trackers have a weight limit and you usually cannot effectively put any lens or telescope on them with a focal length over 400-500mm. This means star trackers are best used for wide-field images: nebula, Andromeda galaxy, open clusters. If you want good planetary images, you will need to drop about $3,000 on a heavier duty mount and an 8” SCT. EDIT: clarity More on reddit.com

Debating between Dwarf 3 and Dwarf Mini for Astrophotography and Birding
Mini is focused on Astro functions only. It has limited to nearly nothing to offer for terrestrial based features. They purposely built it as an Astro only in mind travel companion Dwarf 3 is your jack of all trades. More on reddit.com

What do you think of Dwarf Mini smart telescope ?
Given that it is designed to compete directly against the Seastar C30, they are very similar in features and price. The Seastar gets an additional wide-angle lens but lacks the EQ mode that the Dwarf Mini has. I believe they use the same sensor and focal length, however. So image quality should be nearly identical as far as raw output goes, the difference more are going to be in software and image processing. Now, how does it compare to a Dwarf 3? If you can afford the D3, the extra value it adds is worth it as you are getting a better sensor with 4x the resolution(2.1MP vs 8.3MP), the wide-angle lens, and better battery life. DWARF mini Smart Telescope Review
February 20, 2026 - As you will see in my example images, the deep-sky performance of the DWARF mini is exceptional for its stature. The pictures rival the images I captured with a DSLR camera through an 80mm refractor telescope when I started many years ago.

DwarfLab Dwarf Mini Smart Telescope
Dwarf Mini’s high-quality sensor ability to take 1- to 2-minute exposures puts it firmly in the realm of true astrophotography setups, in a way that previous smart telescopes haven’t fully been able to realize. With Dwarf Mini I was able to image, appropriately, the dwarf planet.

New Dwarf mini smart telescope makes astrophotography easy.
November 21, 2025 - I found it quite mesmerizing to watch a distant object become more and more visible on the smartphone screen as the image stack number increased, but this can be a lengthy process so others may prefer to set things up and leave the Dwarf mini to do its thing. Though the device won't be able to get up close to planets in our solar system, shots of our Moon are possible and the telescope ships with a ND filter for Sun captures too.

Dwarf Mini Review - The World’s Smallest Smart Telescope - Impulse Gamer
January 6, 2026 - Even light wind didn’t throw it off as tracking remained stable and the final stacked images showed no noticeable star trailing. And here is the Dwarf app in action with the Running Man Nebula. The Mini also handled the Sun and Moon well, though with a caveat. Unlike deep sky objects which the telescope automatically detects and centres, the Sun and Moon require manual positioning through the app before tracking kicks in.

Dwarf Mini: The compact, smart telescope for great astrophotography - Notebookcheck Review
March 21, 2026 - By the way, I resized the images below from 16:9 to 4:3 to make better use of the space side by side. Consequently, there are actually even more stars or space to see on the left and right. All features of the app and Stellar Studio are included with the purchase of the smart telescope and can be used for free; there may occasionally be a queue that lasts a few minutes. The photos shown here are all done with the Dwarf Mini.
