I’ve had my Dyson V11 for just over year now and I can honestly say as hard as I try to like it I’ve been disappointed from day one. Got it as an Xmas gift and was really happy but I’ve found it becomes blocked to the point of not working pretty much every time I use it, I can’t use the highest setting on it, the regular setting is very weak, it spits half of what you have hoovered up out as soon as you turn it off and I’m having to constantly clear its airways out. I have a dog and a cat but have always hoovered daily so there is no crazy build up of hair that should be causing the hoover to struggle yet it just doesn’t seem to perform! Anyone else found these problems with this model?

I purchased the V11 back in 2019, having had various Dyson models previous, including one of their earlier cordless models. It has been a painful experience. it has spent most of its life blocked up in some way or another. It has had 2 motor replacements from Dyson. I have changed filters, washed it, cleaned it, I send more time cleaning the machine that it does cleaning. 2 years ago I went and purchased an old style corded upright Dyson. It was night and day. It cleaned so much better, as Dyson of old used to, and it works harder for longer and picks up so much better than the V11. I would never ever buy another cordless Dyson. It has driven me insane, and these are not cheap machines. I have family who have also had other models of the cordless Dyson, and it is the same. They are always blocked up. I got into Dyson early with their corded uprights, and had mega service from those machines, they are, and still are , amazing. But the battery stuff, is in my experience useless. OK the convenience is there, but the first job of a vacuum is to clean and be useful. Maybe other cordless are like this, I have zero experience.
Dyson V11 opinion
It was the V11 onwards that really meant having a cordless dyson was a corded upright replacement. I have a corded Dyson, the Small Ball which is an amazing vacuum. There is nothing to choose between the actual pickup performance. Both pull about the same amount of dirt from the carpets. While the V11 has less raw suction, clearly better optimised, less distance for the suction to have to travel, better seal on the floored and a better brusher design that actually creates a vacuum anyway. There is so much engineering that goes into those vacuums. My v15 I nearly 5 years old and has seen very regular use and abuse at an airbnb and its held up perfectly. More on reddit.com

This vacuum is honestly amazing, the suction power is incredible and it does a great job at getting dirt out of my carpets, before this I thought my carpets were clean, but now after using this I’ll never look at them the same again.

I have the V11 too, I love it. Best cordless machine I’ve ever had My whole family who swore by shark (not me I despise that brand with a passion lol), but even they started using my Dyson. The torque drive head is something I’m gonna look into for my v11 since I don’t have the v11 torque drive head model but also since this is so good I wanna upgrade to the V11 outsize

All we have is a second hand Dyson DC34, which is really only good for spot cleaning, and my wife is getting sick of the dog hair everywhere, especially the rug and bedroom carpet (everywhere else is uncarpeted, but we'd still like to vacuum that, if that's a thing??). She knows a cleaning lady who swears by her Dyson V11, but I've briefly searched here and it seems that people in general recommend to steer away from Dyson. I would've been fine with Dyson if it was a $100-$200 thing (more towards $100 though) but the fact that we're talking about a $450+ vacuum, well I'd rather just get a more BIFL brand and model based on what I've read.
Other things I've heard about the V11 is that it's a fine secondary vacuum but not really great for your main "deep cleaning" vacuum. And considering we don't have anything great, I'd like to get something solid first, even if that means it's not a sleek cordless unit.
Any other insights or recommendations? Should we steer clear of the Dyson V11 or what are your thoughts?
Budget - $400-$500 is the number in my head, but not stuck on anything if it's BIFL and a life changer.
Flooring types & other cleaning needs: dog hair, some carpet + rug, and hard wood

Most commonly recommended vacuum in/around your price range on this sub is a sebo dart. Dyson is form over function.

There is no such thing as a "solid" Dyson. Avoid them at all costs. You're better off with a Riccar, Sebo, or Miele. I would venture into your local dealer and test drive and ask questions to determine which is the best fit for you. Those three brands are BIFL, and could last up to 20 years.
