Space food - Wikipedia
5 days ago - Since 2002, the small LADA Greenhouse system (the leaf chamber is just 16 x 20 x 26 cm/6 x 8 x 10 inches) has been used on board the International Space Station to study how plants grow in microgravity and to grow edible vegetables for the astronauts. LADA includes a control module and was sent to the station already equipped with the root media for the plants to be grown and eaten in space.

The food that NASA's early astronauts had to eat in space is a testament to their fortitude. John Glenn, America's first man to eat anything in the near-weightless environment of Earth orbit, found the task of eating fairly easy, but found the menu to be limited.

How do astronauts put food on the table in ISS? - Quora
Answer (1 of 3): Contrary to another answer, there is indeed a dinner table - two, in fact. People get the idea that things just naturally float upwards in space. They don’t. Newton’s laws of motion still apply. An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Kitchens Unbound: The International Space Station galley kitchen
And if there is one thing astronauts of all nationalities have come to appreciate, it is the importance of eating together round a table, no matter how cramped. As astronaut Mike Massimino says, “Food is really important in space travel. It’s more than just nutrition…we’re still human... being able to take a little bit of what you’re used to…sharing meals with friends: it’s the psychological benefit you get.” · Even in space, the kitchen really is the heart of the home.
