Why exclude helpdesk? Helpdesk is were you get your feet wet. It's not all just user support. Depending on the desk you get to play with servers and networks. Some helpdesk jobs are just resetting passwords and rebooting printers. Some are doing AD, adding vlans to switch ports, writing scripts, debugging webservers... Etc. I started as student level IT re-imaging labs for the university help desk and every bit of that experience is still valid 10 years later.

The majority of people ive worked with over the last decade including myself all started in a junior security position. Having 26 years in the field, I would suggest finding any job and information technology. Getting into the system is often one of the hardest things to do. Accepting a job and information technology that meets your minimum pay requirements gets your foot in the door. Just because you possess a college degree does not mean you possess the experience necessary to work in a cyber security position. Obtaining the relevant experience can come through many other positions in the field of IT. I wish you the best of luck in your career. More on reddit.com

I recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a minor in Math. I just passed the CompTIA Security+ exam (SY0-701) yesterday — super excited about that! I also have the TestOut Security Pro certification.
Right now, I’m preparing to apply for cybersecurity jobs by updating my resume and job site profiles. I’ve started building a GitHub portfolio using screenshots and documentation from the TestOut Security Pro labs. While I understand the Security Pro cert isn’t well-known in the industry, I think the hands-on labs from the course are a great way to demonstrate skills. I also plan to set up and showcase some home labs (like TryHackMe, VirtualBox, or self-hosted network setups) while I apply.
That said, I don’t have any prior job experience in IT or cybersecurity. My main goal is to break directly into a true entry-level cybersecurity role and avoid going through the help desk route, if possible.
My questions:
Is what I currently have enough to help me land a cybersecurity job without prior experience?
What else would you recommend I do to improve my chances or stand out to employers?

Thanks everyone — I really appreciate the honest advice. I’m applying to help desk and IT support roles to build real-world experience, but I’m also applying to junior cybersecurity jobs where the descriptions mention no required experience and a focus on learning and growth. I know those roles will probably go to someone with 4+ years of experience, but I’m still putting myself out there since who knows I could just get lucky.

The chances are never 0, but cyber security is not an entry level position. I have a BS in cyber security and the comptia trifecta. I'm a field tech. Start looking for helpdesk and maybe (if you're lucky) jr sys/network admin riles.

I started going for a Masters degree in cybersecurity, but I decided I’d look for a cybersecurity job for the moment to make money (and then maybe finish the degree in the future). Almost all the jobs I’m finding say they want 3-5 years of experience. But there’s gotta be somewhere I can go to get that experience. I’ve been looking for jobs like Information Security Analyst and Network Security Analyst. If there’s other types of jobs I could be looking for, I’d appreciate it if you’d let me know!

Cybersecurity isn't an entry level field, so there aren't many entry level jobs. It's a field you pivot into after getting experience in an adjacent domain, usually IT. We stopped hiring and interning new graduates a while back, the university cybersecurity degrees are woefully inadequate, and we only kept maybe 3 or 4 interns/new graduate hires out of 50 or so.
