You should never hire an FA for performance. You should hire them for comprehensive planning (tax planning, distribution strategies, retirement income analysis, estate concerns, etc.). If they aren’t doing all of that for you, what are you paying for? Edit: to clarify, anyone down playing the value of an advisor is an idiot. Most people (including those here) should be paying an advisor. Just make sure you’re getting real value from it. Answer from yerrmomgoes2college on reddit.com

Anybody heard any good or bad things about Fisher Investments private client group? My friend is thinking about investing with them?
They advertise a TON on Bloomberg TV. They're a pretty standard investment firm, from my rather limited research. They eschew annuities and it looks like they prefer to use discretionary accounts instead of individual investments - i.e. instead of a stock or mutual fund with a commission or 'load' attached to it, they invest your money and take a percentage of the value every year (usually about 1%). Could be worse - could be better. Unless I had a relationship with someone at the firm I wouldn't go out of my way for them - you're better off with someone you know/trust or at least someone local, would be my argument. YMMV. r/investing on Reddit: Anyone using Fisher Investments and feel like it's worth it?
August 16, 2024 -

I've (52M) been talking with a Fisher rep for awhile, I've been through the analysis process, and they make a fairly compelling case that, net fees, they could improve my returns 4 to 5%.

I'm skeptical, but I'm also a "set it and forget" it investor, about 10% bonds, 50% VOO, 10% VTI/small cap, and the rest in target date funds.

My portfolio is a little unbalanced and spread over a bunch of accounts I've accumulated over the years. Overweight in some areas, underweight in others. I could consolidate and balance, but I hate to think I'm leaving money on the table with a mostly hands off approach. Hoping to semi-retire in 10 years.

Anyone using Fisher, or other similar firm, and feel it's worth the fees?

EDIT: Fisher fee is 1.25. Most of my ETFs are .03 to .1

Fisher Investments Review 2025: Is It Worth the Fees?
August 26, 2025 - I personally do not think it’s worth it, but many of Fisher’s clients are more than happy to pay the fees, which are slightly higher than the industry average, to gain access to its Investment Policy Committee and other financial planning services. The firm does not share performance data publicly, though it does disclose it uses the MSCI World Index for many of its private clients’ stock portfolios.

Fisher Investments Review | SmartAsset.com
The firm believes that asset allocation is the primary driver of portfolio performance. Asset allocations are customized according to various personal factors, including clients’ time horizons, risk tolerances, cash flow needs and outside assets. That step is followed by sub-asset allocation, which focuses on deciding which countries or market-sectors are likely to outperform. From there, the firm selects specific securities. Fisher Investments typically bills its private clients based on a percentage of assets under management.
