My biggest regret is.. NOT BUYING IT SOONER 🤪 Originally we had a double bed in this room and space was extremely limited! This daybed now allows us to utilise the space as a sofa when set up as a single and pulled out to a double when guests come to stay. Hi! The bed frame I have is the white HEMNES daybed with 3 drawers, TWIN . Here is the link:

This bed has a layer that can roll out and I'm thinking of putting a full bed and keeping it extended (instead of just using it as a twin bed). Has anyone had any success with doing something like this / know if it would work? Thanks

For anyone that stumbles across this post - I have a full size mattress on top of this Hemnes daybed frame and it works perfectly! Have been using this for at least 4 years daily. Don’t be afraid to try it! There are no weird spaces , as the bed frame can roll out, so you can make it custom to fit exactly the width of the full size mattress!

Perfectly ok to do as long as you're fine with not being able to use the daybed function to the fullest extent. You'd be surprised with how many people do this instead of stacking the twins.

I'm very lucky, and my "big gift" this year for Christmas was a "coupon" from my parents to buy a daybed for my apartment. (I can get anything up to $1,000).
I have a general idea of what I want (upholstered/padded exterior with all three sides like a traditional sofa, twin size, at least 350 lb weight limit), but am pretty flexible within that, and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to buy good-quality/long-lasting furniture online - it seems like a lot of furniture is available through sites like wayfair, where the quality could vary drastically, and I'm not sure whether I can trust review sites (or which ones).
Do you all have brands you'd trust to look at options, sites you'd trust for furniture reviews, (or even a specific daybed that you've personally encountered)?

If you’re willing to spend a little bit beyond the budget your parents have given you, I can say that the Pottery Barn ones do hold up. They also have at least one slipcovered upholstered option which adds to the longevity because they can be washed or even replaced if need be. We bought one for a guest bedroom on a friend’s recommendation, at least ten years ago now, that guest bedroom later turned into my child’s nursery and my husband and I spent a lot of nights sleeping on it when they were young. It is now their actual bed and we just bought a second of the same daybed for the guest bedroom in our newly finished basement. ETA: It also comes in multiple sizes which is nice if you want that. We got a twin the first time around, and the second one is a double.

a decade ago i used a formula where the couch price divided by $100 = the years it will last. a $300 couch will last you three years before the cushions start wearing, fabric seams might start busting and the joints start to wobble. these days, it’s more like $300/yr. also, moving the couch will quickly shorten its lifespan, so take a year off for every time you move / disassemble it. you can beat this formula by buying higher quality furniture used. but options and styles will be a bit more limited. unless you plan to move / sell it in a couple years, i would highly recommend adding $500+ to your budget, just to get something that will last. it is wild what couches cost these days, but realize anything under $1000 new is junk. do not buy from Wayfair, as they are a step or two below even Ikea. Ikea makes some decent stuff. but it too will start to fall apart in a few years. look for used West Elm, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel and their modern line CB2. each of these used to make high quality furniture but have fallen from grace in the last decade. there is still good stuff to be found, but just make sure it’s built from solid wood (pine is ok, oak is better) and held together by traditional joinery / bolts, not some quick assembly / proprietary system.
