Quite so, the unclear touch interface is my sole criticism of the otherwise excellent Buds Live. According to Samsung, the sensor area is centered around the upper microphone - see this picture ("Touch area"). Of course, that microphone is not exactly a landmark, and it does not provide much guidance once the Buds are in the ears. Personally I have found it helpful to tap with the whole flat of the finger, rather than just the tip, simply in order to increase the area that I touch and thereby my chances of hitting the spot. Also, if you hold one Bud in your hand and cover the inner touch sensor (again, see the diagram) to make the Bud "believe" it is in the ear, this will activate the touch area. Then you can practice tapping at it and see/hear how far off from the center you can go while still turning on/off the sound. This is all far from ideal, and I wish they were designed more clearly, but it helps a little. Answer from Dr_Matoi on reddit.com

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live: 8 tips and tricks to get the most out of your new earbuds - CNET
August 28, 2020 - The Galaxy Buds Live may look weird, but they have all of the features and specs to compete with Apple's AirPods. The Buds Live bring active noise cancellation to drown out background noise, experimental features for improving the gaming experience and the ability to have your notifications read to you. Exactly how they work will depend on the phone you're using them with, but on the whole, from the initial pairing process to controlling your music, they're easy to use.

r/galaxybuds on Reddit: Where exactly is the sensor of the touchpad on the buds live?
October 17, 2020 -
I'm always having trouble getting the touchpad to respond when skipping tracks etc, but I will get accidentally taps when i try to adjust the buds. Does anyone know where exactly the sensor is? On the OG/+ buds, I can touch any part of the touchpad and it would be very responsive.

I had a bit of trouble with this at first but I've learned to put my index and ring finger on either side of my ear and then "touch" with my middle finger. It helps me know where my hand is on my head and now I get it right every time. Hope this helps someone out there :)

Samsung’s Galaxy Buds 4 Pro want you to control audio with your head | Digital Trends
November 17, 2025 - Inside the case, the earbuds now lie flat instead of sitting upright in their slots, bringing them closer to how many other premium wireless buds are stored. Samsung is expected to launch the Pro model alongside the Galaxy S26 series, making this our clearest preview yet of its next flagship earbuds. This is important because: This leak hints at a bigger shift than a new case color. Head-based controls could change how you use earbuds when your hands are busy, wet, or just nowhere near your ears.

Is this a update to the buds that did this or a software update? I have not seen it happen yet.

I was so annoyed mine wouldn't show up in settings, but I got it to work! Unpair them in Bluetooth settings, put both earbuds in the case, close it for 10 seconds. Reopen the case and do nothing, let your phone find it and then it shows up under settings only when they are being used. When you click it, the normal app options are there. 🎉

November 20, 2025 - The obvious bet is a launch with the Galaxy S26 series, so early 2026 feels like the right target. For now, the leak tells a clear story. Samsung is smoothing out the design, tightening case usability, and adding hands free controls that could matter in daily use. No wild reinvention, just a push to make the Pro buds feel easier to live with.

May 9, 2024 -
I'm using galaxy buds live but my 'touch controls' can only change 'touch and hold' option. Is there a way to change the single/double tap control?
I saw older vids where you can swipe in the 'touch control' but I dont have that. So I wonder if that was an outdated feature and we no longer have that, or if it's limited to newer phone models.
Im using S21 FE and my wearable app says it's updated.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live Review: Innovative design, but how the hell do you make them fit?
September 10, 2020 - I’m pretty fair when it comes to giving a product a red-hot go, and my first experience with the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live wasn’t great, so I took some time before passing judgment here in my full Samsung Galaxy Buds Live review. I don’t like them. But there is a lot to like, I suspect I just have strange shaped – and potentially large ears? My first go with these earbuds was on national TV, and one of them fell out of my ear. So yeah – I wanted to use them a bit before assuming that was my fault or the design. Credit to Samsung and to AKG these things sound amazing. Really rich full sound, and as I’ll mention later, great EQ and sound controls within the app.
