It is a given that with any CC approval, both the hard inquiry (excluding pre-existing Amex client) + the lowering of the Average Age of Accounts (AAoA; excluding most business cards) will lower your scores. Totally understand if this isn't the best place to ask, but I'm just curious based on others' experiences.
I'm currently an ON employee, but genuinely shop at ON, Gap, and Athleta a LOT. I'm a college student with a 747 (built up from being an authorized user on my parent's Target REDCard for three years (who have even better credit than I do), and having a secured card of my own for over a year). Never paid a bill late for anything in my life. Obviously I don't make much, but I don't pay housing. Just trying to look for a way to build my credit that is not a standard unsecured card and would actually be semi-useful to me, however if there's a fair chance I would get declined (the income being the more concerning part than the credit score), I would rather not take the hit to my credit score. Of course I know no one ACTUALLY knows, but what has been peoples' experience with it?
(edit: not that it likely matters, but I will probably get the card at Athleta if I do)

the interest rate for the card is over 25% which is astronomical compared to other major cards. there’s tons of other cards that give you more benefits save your credit & skip any brand cards!!!

I had a decent credit and only one credit card, but have only had it since 2021. I opened a gap card recently because a family member started working there and asked me to open one to help her out. I did it thinking it was only going to drop a few points, but 30???? Is there something wrong? Will it go back to normal? :( I’m so upset. I work really hard to make sure everything is paid on time.

Your credit history is still very young, the score will fluctuate greatly over time. Your score dropping by 30 points doesn't mean much at all, it will rebuild as you continue to pay your balances on time. Typically, as your # of credit cards increase and your credit history increases, each inquiry will be impacting your credit score less and less. I looked up the Gap credit card, and it seems to have no annual fees, so at the very least, there is no harm in keeping the card in a sock drawer. Besides using the card at Gap, do you shop at other Gap-owned brands like Banana Republic, Athleta, and Old Navy? On the other hand, you can choose to close the card though it may not get your 30 points back, since the drop in score was due to the inquiry and there is no way to take that back. Additionally, other lenders may be wary of you if you choose to close a card within a short period of time.
