Yup, you're switching the hosting of the domain to another provider while keeping the domain registration at godaddy. So, the steps: Find a hosting provider, sidebar hosts should do Install wordpress at the hosting provider Get a theme for wordpress from one of the many sites, just make sure the theme maker makes updates as even themes can have security holes. Install any plugins that you may need and I usually recommend: wordfence, w3 total cache, backwpup, WP Mail SMTP, Disable Comments, and WordPress SEO by Yoast . Enable caching in w3 total cache Enable scheduled backup in backwpup Enable disable comments globally (you can skip this if you really want comments on your site but make sure to use a anti-spam comment plugin) The above can be done at the new host's using a test url, however, you will then also need to change the url of site for wordpress after launch. As such, it is usually best to change the computer's host file to point the domain to the new host so that you can work on it and not have to change the site url. Changing the site url can cause issues with some theme properties. If you have email service setup at godaddy, set it up at the new host. If you have any custom DNS records, set those up at the new host also. Once you have everything in place, go to godaddy and change the nameservers to the new host's nameservers that they should provide. More on reddit.com
