Dear Google: Please just add the Fi web app functionality to the Fi app for Android/IOS
Where can I get this Fi web app of which you speak?
More on reddit.comIs the Fi app really necessary?
Does GoogleFI use the normal Phone app?
Google wifi provisioner. Is this for real?
Looks legit. Most operating systems have various app and programs that the user never interacts with directly, but are necessary to make sure the system runs smoothly. In a lot of cases, it's easier to use an existing update mechanism, like an app store or package manager to keep such applications up to date.
As for the screenshots, since no users interact with these types of programs directly it's okay for them to be kinda ugly or have inside jokes and stuff.
As for the reviews, most people don't review system components and those that do don't usually know what they're actually reviewing.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Since the Fi web app seems to work from chrome for calls and SMS on any device, why not just add it to the app? Its probably 10 lines of code since that app is based on chrome anyway (well, maybe that's a slight exaggeration). That way we can have calls and messages from any device, anywhere, anytime with real notifications. I bet more than a few people would even pay a few extra bucks for it...
I ordered a Galaxy S21 Plus. Using the Google Fi app, I got the phone working, and the number ported. Data, calls and texts all seem to work flawlessly.
But I bought this phone for my wife to use. Not me. The number I ported in is her phone number. But since I ordered the phone from my Google account to give to her I have to log into Google Fi app with my email address and password. I don't like the idea of every contact that I have, and I have a whole lot more than her, showing up on her phone and all my emails showing up on her phone.
So I removed the Google Fi app. Everything still seems to work perfectly fine.
Do I actually need it for anything that I'm not thinking of? Does the app affect network switching? Connections to wifi hotspots? Wifi calling? Honestly have no idea and I'm looking for clarification.
Thanks in advance
I have no idea how Google FI works, but for some reason I assume it is basically a SIP style setup, so does that mean that Google FI uses the native Android Phone app and uses a SIP profile setup in that, or am I totally wrong with how this works?
