Google's NotebookLM recently added a new functionality that lets you create a podcast from notes in your notebook. After playing with it for a while, I have to say, I think it's the most impressive AI voice generator out there. It just feels like listening to humans. And the podcast's script is also great. I'm pretty sure that if you played it on a car's radio most people wouldn't realize they're listening to something that was made by AI. (especially because the pod-casters refer to themselves as humans lol).
If you're interested, here's a sample I made using this as a source:

As an experiment, I downloaded the contents of a family members website as a pdf and fed it into NotebookLM, then told that family member that I had discovered a podcast featuring their business. Wanted to see what effect the personalization would have, as it would be trivial for someone to scrape business sites and use this output as a trust builder for scams: "I'm contacting you from DeepDive Podcast, we feature businesses to an audience of 3million. We just need some info in order to..." It adds the authority element. The result? This member didn't believe me when I told them it was AI and grew suspicious that I had somehow put the "podcast" together with actors or was obfuscating my source. I had to walk them through the process to prove it was a synthetic output. I've been explaining some of the dangers of this new paradigm to friends and family, and am repeatedly told that my concerns, "sound like science fiction. That's not going to happen." Then have to explain that it already happened a month ago. And this is accelerating. *edit: spelling

For me it was definitely like the first time experiencing chatgpt. I hacked together a prototype using elevenlabs and it doesn’t sound nearly as good. demo: https://vocaroo.com/18LwtDCmC4nh Besides the voice quality there is also the script and the interactions between the hosts. The subtle laughs, acknowledgements, follow up questions, topics chosen, all of it comes together to make a very impressive experience. I don’t think Google has a moat here though. The close enough can be done in a day with off the shelf APIs. The exact experience hopefully only a month or two away.

Ready to have your mind blown? This is not an ad or promotion for my product. It is a public Google product that I just find fascinating!
This is one of the most amazing uses of AI that I have come across and it went live to the public today!
For those who aren't using Google NotebookLM, you are missing out. In a nutshell it lets up upload up to 100 docs each up to 200,000 words and generate summaries, quizes, etc. You can interrogate the documents and find out key details. That alone is cool, but TODAY they released a mind blowing enhancement.
Google NotebookLM can now generate podcasts (with a male and female host) from your Documents and Web Pages!
Try it by going to NotebookLM.google.com uploading your resume or any other document or pointing it to a website. Then click * Notebook Guide to the right of the input field and select Generate under Audio Overview. It takes a few minutes but it will generate a podcast about your documents! It is amazing!!

This is yet another example of how AI will leverage humans to do more, not steal jobs from humans. Now a startup entrepreneur can take his business plan and run it through this tool to create a pitch video, saving thousands of dollars and weeks of time. Human beings will adapt to figure out ways to make AI work for them and increase their productivity.
