What are people saying about british restaurants in Chicago, IL?
"I absolutely loved my experience here. I was visiting from NYC on a solo trip and decided to treat myself by finally trying one of Stephanie Izard's restaurants. I was lucky to get a last minute bar seat, which made the night even better. The bar staff were so nice, welcoming, and engaging, which made solo dining feel even more enjoyable. I love watching Stephanie cook on TV, so eating here felt extra special and it did not disappoint. Every dish complemented the others beautifully while still having its own refined and easy to recognize flavors. I am so happy I came."

Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey setting up at Borelli’s
It APPEARS that the announced-in-2022 location of a Hell's Kitchen restaurant in Chicago is NOT happening
Gordon Ramsay is coming to your house for dinner. What is your signature dish?
Packaged fresh tortellini
More on reddit.comWhat house would Gordon Ramsay be in? I vote Hufflepuff
Gryffindor. He's a brave man to eat some of the (frankly, unsafe) trash that's been put in front of him in kitchen nightmares.
More on reddit.comTL;DR - Almost 3 years now since the 2/22 announcement that Chicago would get a Hell's Kitchen restaurant, no work was ever done to build up the space, and the address is now back up for lease to any new tenant who wishes to take the spot.
On February 24, 2022 the Gordon Ramsay account on Instagram had Gordon himself in a video announcing that new locations of Hell's Kitchen themed restaurants, based on the show, would be coming to Washington DC, then to Miami, and then to Chicago:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CaWiMcVDZUJ/
The Washington DC location opened less than a year later, on January 28, 2023. On September 23, 2023 the Miami location opened its doors (but not before an additional HK location opened at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, on July 15, 2023).
When the Chicago HK location was announced, both Eater Chicago and local TV station NBC 5 Chicago reported the story:
https://chicago.eater.com/2022/2/24/22949492/gordon-ramsay-hells-kitchen-river-north-chicago
https://www.nbcchicago.com/local-2/gordon-ramsay-to-open-hells-kitchen-restaurant-in-chicago/2768425/
They said that it was planned to open in (early) 2023. Both reported the address of the HK location as "508 N. State Street" in the neighborhood River North, not far from the already-open (since Dec. 2021) Gordon Ramsay Burger in Chicago.
In May 2023, in Naperville, Illinois (a 40-45 minute drive west of the reported HK address), a Ramsay's Kitchen location opened. But the HK location in Chicago itself was supposedly ALSO still coming. Or was it?
We are almost 2 years since it was meant to open and close to 3 years since the announcement Chicago would get a Hell's Kitchen restaurant. To this day, Gordon Ramsay North America ("GRNA") has never updated the public about their plans for Hell's Kitchen in Chicago.
I've personally called businesses on the same block as the given address, and they tell me that the space has remained empty and closed, with no construction or signage, since the previous tenant at that address (Cantina Laredo) closed in 2021. No work has ever been done to prepare that building to became a Hell's Kitchen.
NOW, the Loopnet website says that 508 N. State St. in Chicago is up for lease again, looking for a new tenant to take the spot:
https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/508-N-State-St-Chicago-IL/28619118/
That page links to an online brochure by JLL (take a while to load due to animations) which is selling potential buyers on the space:
https://indd.adobe.com/view/028c08f7-12fa-4d46-9b82-1d71d3a6d3ae
From all of this, it's easy to conclude that GRNA has changed their mind, and quietly cancelled the project to create a Hell's Kitchen restaurant at the announced Chicago address.
Which is a shame, because Eater Chicago quoted Ramsay as saying, "he thinks it has the potential to be the best Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen in America." 👿
