r/hometheater on Reddit: Looking for any suggestions on a cheaper alternative for an immersion led TV backlight.
April 18, 2024 - Now, to be fair, I needed 2 smart bulbs for my bedroom, so I just bought 4 instead of 2 to do both rooms. ... I picked up the Nanoleaf 4D and installed it just yesterday. Sounds like it’s the same price as Govee’s product and it’s phenomenal.

r/Govee on Reddit: Is there an alternative without the camera?
January 31, 2023 -

Are there any alternatives that accomplish the same thing (adaptive LED backlighting), but use the HDMI signal instead of using the camera?

I came across one: https://www.philips-hue.com/en-us/p/hue-play-hdmi-sync-box-/046677555221#overview

But are there any others anyone knows about, maybe better in terms of price of course?

Edit: I realized since I have a smart TV and it won't always have HDMI signal in, I need a camera looking at the screen regardless. I'm going to buy a Govee T2 and bottom-mount it so it's less intrusive, and see how I like it. Alternatively I found a device called Ambivision but it's rather expensive coming from the UK

Thanks for the replies everyone

Govee Immersion TV backlight review: The best way to recreate the movie theater experience
There's really no reason even to consider this product over Govee Immersion for TV lighting, especially since they're the same cost, as it's simply inferior. An even more budget-friendly alternative is a Govee Wi-Fi LED strip, which comes in varying lengths for under $30. Govee Immersion TV backlight

Govee (or similar) responsive backlights as a replacement for ambilight? | Overclockers UK Forums
May 8, 2024 - My old TV recently gave up the ghost, which was a Philips model with Ambilight. April 12, 2021 -

I know all the 'ambilight kits' are promoted as for TVs that are 55" and up, is there any alternative for those of us with smaller, i.e 40" tvs? I know you can get ambilight 'kits' from aliexpress, etc, that come with a 'color box' but these don't work with netflix, etc, due to DRM. That's why something with a camera would be ideal because it doesn't matter where the video comes from, it uses whatever is on the screen. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated :D

You can still get the groove immersion lights buy you need to do a double loop technique to make it work. If you have any questions feel free to message me.

Just chiming in. I installed this on a 43 inch tv with no issues at all regarding color tracking with a slightly modified double loop technique. Instead of looping at the beginning and end of of each section, I kept my corners in place as per install instructions...then found middle of the led strip and added a loop about 1/4 way along the strip so the middle of the led strip landed about halfway along the side of tv I was working on. Then did the same again from center to next corner...and just used some clear led clips from Amazon to pin down the loops so they laid a bit more against the back or tv cuz the strip adhesion is only so so..I found it was easier to manage and keep things kinda consistent without having to think to hard or get jammed up with too much length on one end. If u do use other clips make sure they are clear though cuz u inevitably end up casting weird shadows and even covering up diodes if you use white or black add more shadows cuz of a stupid clip is covering half a light Just my preference for my particular setup. Oh..and use a calibration video from you tube for camera alignment and color . No need to stick those orange foam blocks on your screen. I also found it helpful to calibrate it a few times over the first week or so just cuz camera/wires settle and shift. If you need pics or more explanation just hit me up. [email protected]

I see most posts recommend turning both of these settings way down but I'm not sure what looks best for my eyes (I'm still playing around with it) so what settings should I try?

If it matters I have a darker blue green wall backing the TV so I'm sure that will affect my settings compared to yours but I'm still curious.

r/Govee on Reddit: Envisiual T2 vs Backlight 3 Lite.
November 12, 2023 -

Can anyone shed some light on the main differences here, and if going from a T2 kit is an overall upgrade/downgrade or alternative option?

From whay I've seen spec wise, the 3 Features RGBIC+W vs no W on the t2, however it carries 30leds per vs 60 on the t2.

Additionally, the T2 sports a dual camera design while the 3 has a single fisheye lens.

So, does it make sense getting the 3 if I have the t2? And, since this is a 'lite' what are the odds of a 'pro' version launching?

Edit -
I'm staying will the T2 till a better version appears.

I love that Govee has so many smart items from the same company. But I’ve been wanting to make the switch from Echo to Homepod. Though unfortunately as much as I love Govee, it’s not entirely compatible. Is there another company that has a smart dehumidifier, smart air purifier, smart hydrometer/thermometer, smart heater, smart fan, AND smart lights while all being compatible with Homekit? I hate having a whole bunch of different apps to control things so I’d prefer if it’s just all one manufacturer.

Hi, just need a bit of convincing to buy the Immersion kit, just most of the threads on here seem to be peoples problems, seems the slightest reflection or added light seems to throw it off, even the colour of your carpet! Is it really this sensitive, also someone said the colours would always be off on a VA tv panel, which my Sony XJ90 is... i would only be using it to watch movies and gaming, so would want the colours to match the onscreen stuff..
