Stacked will show more of the subtle inconsistencies in the tile job. Staggered will hide them. With tile work, it's usually a good idea to go with the layout that hides imperfections, because there will be imperfections. If you find pictures of nice looking tiled bathrooms that are inspiring, if they're high res you can zoom in and usually find lots of setting issues. Nothing looks perfect in real life! I would reconsider the black floor tiles. Having 3 different types of tiles might be overwhelming, especially when 2 of them have a small scale pattern. I would do the shower (floor and walls) in the same tile, and would go for a large format solid black or gray. More on reddit.com

Sorry for the clunky title. We plan to have the shower tiled in 4x8” glossy white subway tiles with charcoal grey grout. The floor will be the 8.5” charcoal grey hexagon also with grey grout. I want to do an interesting mosaic in the niche, but am unsure of where to go with it.
I originally saw a white 1x3 herringbone that I thought would be interesting but subtle, but it was a cool white whereas the subway tile and tub are a warm white. I then found the stone herringbone in the first pic, but if the subway tile is glossy with that be a weird combo? My husband found a glossy grey herringbone, but I don’t love that either for some reason. A colorful mosaic would be fun, but we’re trying to keep the tile fairly neutral since it’s expensive to change. Don’t yell at me though, we’re planning to do a bold, colorful wallpaper on the walls!

I like your plan to be conservative with the tile and bold with the wallpaper. I think matching the charcoal textures makes sense, it will look more deliberate. I'm not keen on the charcoal grout in the subway tile though- I think it's harsh and industrial and not as timeless as the subway tile itself. I'd go with a much lighter grey, just to have enough tint to keep it from showing yellow. A lighter grout in the charcoal tile will show off the herringbone better too. Your plumbing features should match, and chrome or brushed nickel are more timeless than black.
