I've managed to deconstruct the shower faucet to the level shown in the photo, but I don't see how to get the old cartridge out. It's stuck in real good. There's no where to pry, slip jaw pliers don't get a good grip on the outer black plastic, and pulling on the knurled shaft looks like it will break the plastic and leave me stuck. Any advice?

picks, hooks, duckbill pliers, twisting motion side to side. Good old fashioned cuss words, and if all that fails, a few good whacks on the face of the valve w your purse should loosen it right up. Theres likely just mineral buildup and itll take some finessing to come out. Dont be afraid of it breaks in the process. Take it out in pieces if need be. Next time dont turn off the water just use a flat screwdriver and turn the two stops on either side of the valve.

Ahhh….. the old Tempress II cartridge. It should slide straight out. But the o-rings on either side can get gummed up.

I think there are two main thermostatic cartridges that are used with that style handle adapter. What numbers are on the valve body? It's hard to read on the pictures.

By any chance did you figure out what model this is? I'm pretty sure I have the same one as you. I think it's the 47450 cartridge but I'm trying to figure out what the overall model is to replace more of the parts. My problem is the chrome collar/sleeve that went over the cartridge area (the cylinder you take off before you can remove the pin holding the cartridge in) was so stuck on there that I had to shred it and peel it off. Now I need to buy a new sleeve/collar. I'm looking to just replace the entire cartridge and handle but I'm not sure how interchangeable these are.
