My group has been playing online the past year and I think I've only just got into the swing of things, and part of that process has been finding a resource that really works for me. I think I was looking up a way for a few people to draw cards online and I found something a lot better: playingcards.io
This virtual tabletop allows you to customize decks and automate drawing, which means you can give each player a place at the table and draw them each a card with the click of a button. I customize decks with the player's characters, as well as artwork for the NPCs or monsters. The site is perfect for Savage Worlds because there are also customizable token pieces that you can use for setting unique bennies, conditions such as distracted/vulnerable (we have a hard time keeping track of who's what when), and large dramatic tokens for story elements. There's also a 'hand', where you can store cards that other players can't see, which is great for storing that horde of zombies the players don't know about yet.
A few weeks ago I ran a social combat on this site, and it ran pretty effortlessly. I customize two decks, one for the players that face left, and one for their foes or NPCs which face right. When I'm designing next week's encounters I just make a little note of which spaces are 'quick' in case I need to redraw, or I add in extra spaces in case someone has the level headed edge. You can also change the background. I like to add in a transparent picture similar to the game's location, I think it's an immersive touch. The only thing playingcards.io doesn't do yet is roll dice, but we all roll physically so that isn't an issue.
I hope that if you don't have a program you use yet that this one helps! If you do already have one, what is it? How does it work for your group?
