Honestly, best way to just start doing them. It is okay to use walk-throughs if you do get stuck, but then you should go back and figure out what you were missing. Even if you just start doing 10 minutes a day and that is it on HTB, it is a start. A lot of it will be self-motivation, and striving to learn more. I have been consistently learning cybersecurity for the past 3 to 4 years. I will never stop learning. I would also recommend taking notes, because you will not be able to remember EVERYTHING. I use Obsidian, but you can use Google Keep, OneNote, Evernote, Notion, or just pen and paper. Just get used to note taking, I use mine as references for continuous commands I run and my methodology I use when doing CTFs. More on reddit.com

How helpful would you say sites like HackTheBox, TryHackme, and CyberDefenders are? Do they teach you how to attack certain issues as well as things you would do day-to-day or is it more so familiarizing you with software? Out of the 3 you mentioned, I recommend CyberDefenders’ CCD certification. It’s completely hands on, no multiple choice questions, and simulates real world investigations within a 48 hour lab environment. I learned a lot and it elevated my threat hunting capabilities. Then I don’t see why you couldn’t start applying to level 1 SOC Analysts positions or whatever you wanna do.

Hello guys, I recently got the Hack The Box Academy student plan (I’m in my bachelor’s 2nd year). Like most students, I struggle with consistency and motivation, but I’m very ambitious about learning cybersecurity. I want to get maximum results with minimum wasted effort (not zero effort, just smart effort). What’s the best way to approach HTB Academy and HTB in general without burning out or mindlessly grinding? Any advice, routines, or mindset tips you’d recommend to a junior starting out would be really appreciated.
