I recently bought a 2010 Subaru Outback, which has a "handsfree" voice calling feature that allows the car to connect to your device (in my case an iPhone) via bluetooth. However, once the device is connected by bluetooth, it works only for voice calls, and not to stream music, or for hands-free calls using WhatsApp. What's going on that creates this limitation? Is it something that can be changed by, say, updated the software? I know nothing about bluetooth, to be clear...

My car doesn't have built-in Bluetooth. I have a hands-free Bluetooth device that attaches to the visor and works pretty well for phone calls. But the volume on audiobooks is much lower and hard to hear, even turned up as high as both devices will go. I tried looking for a few device and found similar feedback, so wondered if anyone has found one that works well both for calls and for audiobooks?

Do you have an AUX port? It looks like a headphone jack. I added a media screen to my cargo van and it does everything the built-in system did in my SUV. The volume is only limited to what the van’s factory speakers can handle. I use this one , which also has 4K backup and dash cams, but you can get them for around $50 if 1080 is okay or if you don’t need both cams. No installation required—just plug it in, stick it to the dash, and you’re good to go.

If you push down on the center and hold, it should bring up the command menu. If you push the center button but nothing happens, then probably one of the modules for the Bluetooth has gone out to pasture.
