Conflicting Information on Fire Pit
You don’t need to return anything, Regular cinder blocks are fine. A loose stacked ( not mortared) cinder block fire pit will remain functional even with deteriorating inner faces on the blocks, it’s just not a demanding application. I would put some gravel in/under the bottom to keep it from turning into a muddy mess after rain. More on reddit.com
