r/Ultralight on Reddit: Super high-waisted hiking pants?
November 28, 2020 -

Seeking recommendations for absurdly high-rise hiking pants. Like higher than Mom-jeans, I want pants that go up to most people's armpits. I'm 5'7", but have an absurdly long torso, and most pants fall well below my natural waist. I have a small-ish waist, and a big-ish butt, and finding pants that actually fit my natural waist is generally a challenge. I hate hiking up my hiking pants!

Most hiking pants don't specify the rise, so I'm wondering if anyone here can recommend very high-rise hiking pants? Obviously quick-dry nylon and/or polyester, lots of pockets are ideal too.

My current favorite hiking pants are the EMS Compass 4-Points Joggers. They're super high-rise, fabric is stretchy (like OR Ferrosi, but more durable) and pockets are deep. Nylon/spandex blend, great DWR, quick-dry, love them. But, they've been discontinued, and sold out in my size! Also, the thighs are kinda baggy, I prefer a skinnier cut thru the thighs, am ambivalent about the jogger-style, but they do work well as built-in gaiters. For reference my favorite jeans are Levi's Mile High Super Skinny, they have an almost 11" front rise, and are barely high enough for me.

So, any recommendations for hiking pants that would make Laura Dern (in Jurassic Park) proud?

Hiking Pants Recs: Size 8, 5’9” Curvy, Athletic Body Type👇🏻 I have always been a “hike with leggings girlie because companies IMO didn’t know how to make a hiking pant for my body type. Whenever I would try them on… I would leave the fitting room feeling some type of way. They were either too low wasted and I had a muffin top, or they wouldn’t go over my ass or thighs or they were just too short. However… more and more companies are starting to GET IT because I have found some amazing ones of the last year. But sadly, two of my favorites were just discontinued so, here are my UPDATED RECS for 3 hiking pants I am obsessed with right now. Note: NONE of this is spon. My Sizing: • Pants: 29-31, 8-10 or large-XL • 5’9” • 180lbs • Curvy, athletic build All of these options have: • Adjustable waist • Water resistant • Adjustable ankles (cinching) • Tons of pockets!! • Very well made & great fabric. • Multiple color options & sizing Option 1: @prAna Zion Strech Pant My Size: • Brown: 8 & 31 Inseam • Black: 8 & 33 Inseam (too long IMO) How it fits: • These are true to size with possibly bring a size too big! After wearing them multiple times, they have gotten bigger/stretched. I feel really comfortable with an 8 but I could honestly move to a 6 too. It just depends on comfort level! But HIGHLY recommend. I feel so good in these! Option 2: @Arc’teryx Gamma Pant My Size: • Black & Rune: 8 How it fits: • Extremely true to size! Size 8 was a perfect fit. I love these. Option 3: @SENIQ Trail Mix Pant My Size: • Brown: M • Zen Green: L How it fits: • LOVE these! They are a bit shorter on me but I wear them for lifestyle & hiking. Both the M & L fit me but I wear them based on how I feel and what type of style I want. Also a women owned company yay!!! All 🔗 in bio!! sizing & discount code 👇🏼 I figured it’s about time that I update my favorite hiking pants of all time with you!! If you haven’t been here for a while, a few years ago I started a loooong series to find the best women’s hiking pants. Finding cute and functional women’s hiking pants is HARD. Harder than it should be!! So many of them fit funky, they’re restricting, they’re not long enough (I’m 5’9”) or they’re just really not flattering. I was over never having a pair that I felt good in, so I started testing as many as I could get my hands on. My qualifications for good hiking pants are: • multiple inseam lengths! I’m 5’9” and I need long pants! We need lots of sizes for all of our unique bodies. • adjustable waist (need it to not rub under a backpack) • not restricting • durable (I climb in my pants, and need them to not snag on branches) • breathable • stretchy • pockets!! (Both of these have a pocket I can fit my phone in without it restricting me while hiking) • CUTE. I love that I can wear these after a hike and still feel good!! These two pants have far beat out every other pant I have tried and I feel so so good in them. These both sell out, especially out of their long versions, and I made sure to post this when they’re all in stock with all sizes!! @prAna Zion stretch cargo pant • durable • wide leg cargo style • 29”, 31” and 33” inseams • adjustable waist belt • big pockets!! • cinch at bottom • stretchy!!! And breathable I wear a size 4 33” inseam If you need a regular version, I found these on sale this weekend for 25% off. (Not all sizes are available, mostly regulars but a few shorts, but worth it to check the 🔗in my bi0 first!! I also have every size linked right below :) ) @Stio Outdoor Apparel Pinedale pants • DWR fabric finish • adjustable built in belt • cinches at bottom • great in colder weather (but also in warmer, they’re very versatile) • SO STRETCHY • phone pocket on the thigh (also hip pockets and back pocket) • the most dreamy fabric ever I wear a 4 long (well I should). I have these in two colors!! Longs and shorts are in stock right now discount code: ADVENTUREADDICTS 🔗 in my bi0! #hikingpants #girlswhohike #backpacking | TikTok

The ubiquity of low rise pants is a plague for me. I just want my pants to rest at my natural waist. To me they feel more secure/snug this way, and give my crotch more room. Low rise pants also aren't good for tucking shirts in. I love my current hiking pants, prana zion stretch, but even they are on the low rise end of the spectrum. Anybody have any other recs? thank you!

r/HerOneBag on Reddit: Seeking water-resistant, medium-weight hiking pants with a long inseam
March 19, 2024 -

Hello fellow travelers! I am planning for a hiking trip in New Zealand and it's bringing increased urgency to my lifelong hunt for the perfect hiking pant. Here is what I'm looking for:

-A medium-weight fabric (maybe slightly fleece-y on the inside?)

-A fitted waist but a slightly looser leg. I like to be able to layer a pair of compression leggings underneath for warmth and support.

-A high-ish rise (belly button height at lowest)

-A 32"+ inseam that's available even in small sizes. I usually wear size xs/s or 0/2/4 and it seems like often the extended inseam lengths are only available in larger waist sizes.

-Not picky about color but prefer a dark neutral.

Thank you in advance!

I'm going on a backpacking trip in Colorado (Cascade Creek Trail > Crater Lake Trail > Pawnee Pass) in September and looking to get some hiking pants. I know it's a short backpacking trip but I'm looking to get hiking pants for this trip and beyond. I have massive hips but a small waist so generally my issue is that the pants fit my hips and butt but not my waist or vice versa. Does anyone have suggestions for hiking pants for curvy women? I generally prefer high waisted pants but I'm open to all suggestions. Thank you!

December 30, 2022 -

Hey y’all! Been searching through this sub for climbing pant recommendations and realized I must have a proportionately longer torso compared to most people lol…

I’ve been on the hunt for some truly high waisted pants to climb in, but the most common recommendations I’ve seen end up being mid-rise on me.

I’ve tried on the Prana Kanab pants and the Mountain Hardwear Dynama pants, and they’re basically the exact style I’m looking for, but they still only come up an inch below my belly button!

The only pants I’ve found that sit up high at my natural waist are the Topo Designs Boulder pants.

Hi friends! I used to LOVE the prAna halle pant but unfortch they seem to have changed the fabric or construction and my most recent pair just isn’t up to scratch💔 What are your favorite hiking pants that are flattering & cute but functional. A straight leg or jogger really isn’t so flattering on me, ideally I love a pant thats fitted on the top and tapers out into a flare or bootcut. Thanks for recs!

The title says it all. Ladies, I'm looking for someone who has a similar struggle finding womens pants that fit. I'm built like a solid rectangle. My waist measurement and hips/butt measurement is the same. This is a problem because womens clothes are cut to an hourglass shape. So my stomach is squeezed into button ups or in an elastic band and I've got a lot of poofy extra fabric at the hips that looks silly. So, any ladies find a pair of elastic waist pants that don't have any hip gaps?

I have The North Face Aphrodite 2.0 that I love but I'm looking for any type of pants: fleece lined, rain pants, or summer hiking pants. I'm 150lbs and my waist and hips measure about 36 and 38 respectively, so I wear a large in most bottoms. Price is definitely not a factor here. I want to have quality options that fit well.

Any womens or juniors options for quality pants for my body type? Or do we venture into menswear? Thank you!

A question for the ladies! Does anyone have any recommendations for pants that are more wide leg/loose that I could both hike & generally travel in? I have an old pair of wide leg cargos from Lorna Jane that are ALMOST the perfect pant but they don't dry very quickly so not an ideal hiking solution in hot weather. But I want something I can both walk in and also use as my only long length pants while travelling. I like the cargos as I can store snacks and things in the pockets. Any brand suggestions would be really appreciated! Or if there's another thread you think would be better for this question let me know! 😊

Looking for men's hiking pants that can do well in cool/windy conditions but not get too hot when it gets warmer. Other main criteria is that they be stretchy and not prone to chafing. And preferably not baggy.

I'm looking at the OR Ferrosi (too loose fitting/baggy?), the Prana stretch Zion (only 2 way stretch so not as stretchy as 4 way options?) Arc'teryx Gamma lightweight, and the Black Diamond Alpine Light.

Edit: cost not really a factor. I don’t mind spending money on something that is comfy and will last.

Almost everything I come across clothing wise is extremely low cut on the hips. I feel much more comfortable with high rise pants (wrangler cowboy cut slim fit jeans look and feel great on me). If anyone can point me toward performance materials with a high waist, without having to go bespoke, it would be much appreciated. Cheers.

P.s. by "long rise" I mean something around 11" on a 34" waist.

r/hiking on Reddit: Pant recommendations for women with large hip-to-waist ratio?
April 9, 2024 -

Hi, I need some help finding durable hiking pants/trousers (not leggings) that will fit someone with a larger hip/seat/thigh to waist ratio. I know I'm not alone, but I'm having trouble finding resources listing the best current pants for people like me.

The best ones I've tried are the Fjallraven Curved series (and even they are a little wide in the waist) but they are above my price range. Hoping to find used ones in my size & price range, but no luck so far.

More pants are coming out with those weird little velcro tabs on the side, but when you have to actually reduce the waist-size significantly using them, it can be quite bulky and irritating, especially under a hip-belt.

I'd love to hear what you know!
