Can I run a 500w inverter all day?
Keep the car on ("ready" mode), it might pop up with a message saying car will turn off in an hour and you will need to click "keep on" or something like that. Turn off headlights, radio and air to keep more power. While it's in that mode it will keep 12V battery charged, and if the traction battery get too low it will start an engine as needed to recharge. A full battery charge might be enough for all day with such a small load. I had to do the same thing when camping to power my camper's propane heater and had maybe 10 miles of range and it lasted me around 6 hours before the engine started. More on reddit.com

Fried an inverter/can I get by with a 12v 5000 watt inverter instead?
It depends entirely on that loads you want to run. The bigger question is why did the previous inverter fry? Fuses are a fail safe. If the current is too high they fail. Under normal circumstances they sit there doing nothing. More on reddit.com

Best battery setup for 5000w inverter
Gather round kids for electrical 101. Watt = Volts x Amps So assuming you are using 12v nominal batteries, 5000W / 12V = 416A draw (assuming no power conversion losses. This would supply 5000W / 120v = 41.6 Amps at US standard wall outlet voltages. This is about what you can pull off a 2-3 standard US wall circuits before tripping a breaker, or about 6.75 hp for an internal combustion engine. 416A Amps is as much or more than large trucks use when starting, and a run of more than a few inches would require massive power cables (like 1 AWG wire for just a 4 foot wire run). More importantly, this is more than what most deep cycle batteries can safely provide for an extended time without severe issues like internal heat. A standard Group 31 deep cycle has roughly 110-130 Amp Hours of power at 12v, or 1300-1500 watt hours. 1500 watt hours / 5000 watt draw = 0.3 hours of power at full draw per deep cycle... in other words, you would completely drain a car-sized deep cycle battery in 20 minutes. 1000 milliamphours (mAH) = 1 AH, so your 10,000mAH lithium is really a 10AH battery... at 1/10th the capacity of a deep cycle, it would be drained in less than 2 minutes. Can I use a 12V battery to power a 1000W inverter for long periods?
Yes, you can use a 12V battery to power a 1000W inverter for long periods, but it depends on the battery’s capacity and the power load. For example, a 100Ah battery can run a 100W inverter at full load for approximately 1.2 hours. If the load is lower, the runtime will be significantly longer.

Can I increase the runtime of my 12V battery by using multiple batteries?
Yes, using multiple batteries can increase the runtime. By connecting batteries in parallel, you can increase the total battery capacity, thus extending the runtime. For example, two 100Ah 12V batteries connected in parallel would provide 200Ah of capacity, roughly doubling the runtime of a single battery.

What happens if I exceed the maximum power rating of my inverter?
Exceeding your inverter's maximum power rating can cause it to overheat, shut down, or even become permanently damaged. To avoid this, ensure the total load connected to the inverter does not exceed its rated capacity. A 1000W inverter should not power devices that require more than 1000W, as this could cause excessive wear or failure.

For instance, a 500W device consumes more battery power than a 100W one. Battery Size and Type A larger battery (e.g., 200Ah) will last longer than a smaller one (e.g., 50Ah). The type of battery (AGM, Gel, or Lithium) also influences performance. Lithium batteries tend to last longer and provide better efficiency than other types. Inverter Efficiency Inverter efficiency refers to how well the inverter converts DC to AC power.

r/rav4prime on Reddit: Can I run a 500w inverter all day?
July 28, 2023 -

I’ve got a 2021 Prime (SE, non-PP). I’ve got a job coming up where I might need some mobile AC power pulling about 250w. I have a 500w inverter i can attach to the 12v battery in the back. What would I need to do to keep up with the power demands?

Have I read right that there is no alternator and the 12v battery is charged by the traction battery? I assume it will stay topped off if the car is on all day. What about if I’m parked and plugged in and it’s in room mode?

Anything else I might not have thought of?

Answer (1 of 6): Yep the Inverter’s max wattage is not relevant here, but it’s efficiency sure is and that we don’t know. But theoretically it is a relatively easy question to answer as has already been done for you. But again one needs to know the Ahr of your battery.

r/askscience on Reddit: How does one calculate how long a 12 volt battery can power a device based on draw?
February 6, 2012 -

I have a simple solar battery charger: panel, controller, battery, and 800 watt power inverter to get to 110.

I have a 500 watt device that I would like to power from the batter through the inverter, but I don't know how long it will run and I don't want to run down the battery.

Does anyone know how to do the math on this? How long will a 500 watt device stay fully powered from a 12 volt battery before a recharge is needed?

TIA.
