In your example situation above, where you're using the 'New Gradient Swatch' dialog box, you have select the little colour swatch at one end and then you can choose from your list of swatches which one should replace it. Do this for each end. You must have the individual colour swatches created in your swatches list already. Once you've created your gradient swatch you can tweak the colour of the individual swatches that comprise the gradient and the gradient will update accordingly. The other way to do it is using the gradient palette (window > color > gradient). Similar to above, with one of the colour swatches at each end of the gradient selected, change its colour by holding Option and clicking on any of the swatches in your swatches panel. But I can tell from your UI that you're on Windows so Option won't be the correct key for this. Try Alt or Control instead. EDIT: I forgot to note that I've always hated how gradients are handled in InDesign but it comes from a place of enforcing a process that is good practice for print work. Hi Doswald,What happens if you go to the Swatches panel and choose New Gradient Swatch from the panel menu instead of using the Gradient panel? Does that work? Also try this: select a marker for a gradient stop in the Gradient panel, then Alt+Click a color in Swatches or in the ramp of the Color panel.Jane

You've saved the day. The second solution is the only thing that works. I did uninstall InDesign first, but some solutions still aren't working for me (there has to be some odd setting somewhere - it's all I can think of?) - using Alt + Click for the color worked. Thanks so much! I've never been so relieved!

Pull up the object you're trying to apply the gradient to. Then open the gradient tool. Make sure the object you want the gradient in is selected, then drag a color from your swatches into the gradient tool. To delete the white or any other colors, simply click on the color (hold) and drag it down and it should disappear. Like this: https://imgur.com/GqN3AFf

You can’t. It’s nor fading to white but to transparent. Put the object on a black object or use a gradient fill instead.

March 21, 2022 - To fine-tune the gradient even more, you can alter the position of the midpoint (shown as the diamond icon). This is the point where the start and end colors are blended. You only need to drag the diamond to the left or to the right based on your vision. Sometimes, you can get a very interesting gradient in InDesign by adding extra colors to it.

March 12, 2021 - The Gradient tool is helpful in many other situations, including controling how a blend fills (or strokes) selected text. For example, when you fill text with a blend from the Swatches panel, it’s always based on the bounding box of the text frame.
