What is an electronic notice?
When should I sign up for electronic notices?
How often should I expect an electronic notice?
I have leased a vehicle and I recently moved to a different location within California. I updated my DL address online with the DMV but not the vehicle registration since it was a lease. I have not received the renewal notice now (still checking regularly with my previous apartment to see if they’ve received it). I was wondering how I could correct this address issue if it is one and how to renew my registration without a renewal notice? TIA
I usually receive the Notice in the mail about 60 days before the expiration date but this year not yet, in the East Bay area of CA. Now about 38 days before expiration. Do we need to ask DMV to mail the notice this year? Because this year they indicated most renewals are not processed in local DMVs.
In the past when I received the notice to renew I usually went to AAA office.
I check my mailbox every day.
I've lived in California for the past 3 years. I brought a car with me when I moved, registered it in May 2018, and everything seemed normal at that point, (Although I'm not 100% sure I ever received a new title since I can't find it now.)
Registration in 2019 was normal - paperwork showed up on time, I paid on time, etc.
Registration paperwork in 2020 showed up as normal in April, but my payment/re-registration was not processed until July or August so I was driving for a few months with expired tags.
This year, I haven't received a registration renewal notice at all. I would've expected it to show up in March/April along with additional mailings a few months for past-due after the May due date, but nothing has been sent. I've checked to see if I could access the re-registration online, but I cannot. I know the DMV has my current address because A) I've received mail for this vehicle at my current address in past years, and B) I've received mail for other vehicles registered under my name at my current address. I do not have any past due/outstanding tickets that would block vehicle registration.
Since it's not possible to talk to anyone on the phone at the CA DMV, I wrote a letter to the DMV registration office with no response (go figure). I'm not really interested in going to the DMV to waste several hours of my time fixing their issue. I'm currently driving around with expired tags because the DMV has not sent my registration paperwork.
Does anyone have advice on what my next steps should be?
