I do wheat grass for my grazer and he loves it. Had to put a brick in the bottom of the planter so that it's heavy enough to not be knocked over when my dog goes to town on it. Answer from Meglade on reddit.com

How to Grow Pet Grass | Pet Grass for Dogs to Eat – Bonnie Plants
October 2, 2011 - Both cats and dogs need a little grass in their diets, especially if they do not spend a lot of time outdoors. So if you have a pet, growing pet grass is a great idea. This grass is also called intermediate wheatgrass, but it is not the wheat from which bread flour is made. This is originally an Asian pasture grass that was introduced to the US many years ago for pasture and fodder. You can grow it in pots for your indoor pets, or plant it in beds outdoors for animals that spend time outside.

I might even fertilize it with worm castings, safe for the pups and might make grass keep on growing. I used shade grass seed , I figured it might do better in the house.I started my trays in a guest bedroom and momma dog went straight to it and wanted to pee in it.

r/dogs on Reddit: I need to plant a pot of "pet grass" for my dog to eat. Suggestions for exactly what to plant?
March 11, 2023 -
My dog is a grass grazer. Always has been. Last fall I moved from the suburbs to a rural area with no traditional grassy yard. I have a fenced area, and some patchy grass grows, but it's not what she likes and not nearly enough. I have a long planter, about 3 feet, and I want to plant grass in it that she can graze on when she likes. I know pet stores sell "pet grass," which is wheat grass. I don't know if that satisfies the desire of dog grazers. Has anyone else planted a grass patch for their dog to eat? What did you plant? Would the wheat grass do it?

January 9, 2023 - I'm unaware of any grass types you could grow successfully indoors. Even outdoors, I don't believe you'll be able to grow the grass fast enough to keep up with the rate it gets killed off. To grow a section of grass from seed could take several months before your dog can use it, whereas it might only last a few weeks before it begins to die off. Dog urine contains nitrogen compounds and is quite acidic, which is why it kills the grass so fast.
