Can he return it? What is he using it for? This seems like more trouble than it's worth, and he's likely not benefiting from NVMe to begin with. If you can return it and buy a 2.5" Sata SSD, this would likely be far more ideal.

I am new to PC building/upgrading and do not know if this is possible or how to approach it. I am trying to add an additional nvme SSD to my rig.
Currently I have two nvme SSDs installed on my Aorus Master x870E motherboard. I want to add an additional SSD but I do not want to use another m.2 slot since the remaining ones share lanes with the GPU. If I use an additional m.2 slot it will make the gen 5 PCIE run at x8 instead of x16.
How can I use an additional nvme SSD without affecting GPU performance? Is it even possible?
This is the first time I am trying to upgrade my build, so I really have no clue.

Being honest, losing the lanes on the GPU would likely not affect performance in day-to-day use (even if you have a 5090 in there). Remember that PCIe gen5 has twice the bandwidth of gen4, with 8 lanes,you'd effectively be running the card with the same bandwidth as a gen4 card using 16 lanes (or a 16 lane gen3 slot if your card is PCIe gen4). Each generation of PCIe has doubled the bandwidth of the previous. Hope that makes sense.

Now I know how. Like, I know how to do it, right? You put it in the slot, you screw it in. The practicality of this is what I'm questioning.
The whole thing is small. The screws are small. I need to hold it down AND screw it in. I'm reaching over and into my case, there's a video card nearby that I'd rather not remove cause it's huge and cumbersome and I just wanna slide this thing in and be done with it but my hands are too god damn fat and clumsy and I can't fuckin' do it
Is there some sort of special tool? Is it a two person job? Do you really need room above it so you can put your hands there? How the hell do you do this, it feels designed to be done by elven children because of how tiny and delicate everything is.

you put it in then you take a screwdriver, and screw down the other end. if it's got a magnetic tip it'll hold the screw for you

August 9, 2017 - There is no M.2 slot. Some versions use a SATA M.2 in a caddy which fits in place of the hard drive and connects to the motherboard through the same zif cable attachment. There is no hack, no splitter or juryrig you can do to make it take an M.2 and a hard drive at the same time. If you want it to boot faster your best bet is a 2.5 inch SATA SSD which would be expensive but would achieve your goal of fast boot.
