You can import your research data, highlight and tag/code your data, and export the results, both the coded segments and your code book. Taguette runs in your browser and can be installed on your local computer (MAC, Windows, Linux) or used as a cloud-based application.

It allows users to categorize text according to the themes of their research, allowing for powerful and personalized analysis. This workshop uses the OpenSource Taguette software because it is free to use and many find it easier to learn than other popular commercial software packages.

After this, you will be able to start Taguette from the Launchpad or Spotlight. Once you start the application, you will see a terminal window appear. This is normal! You can ignore it completely and use Taguette from your web browser (localhost:7465 should open automatically).

November 16, 2021 - The install instructions recommend running Taguette in a virtual environment, and this worked well for me – presumably running the binary from the command line spawns a flask– or gunicorn– type web application, which you can then access in your browser. This locally hosted feature was super helpful for me, as my ethics protocol has restrictions on what cloud services I could use. To try Taguette, I first created a project, then uploaded a Word document in docx format, and began highlighting.
