October 25, 2021 - I would love to add an upholstered cushion on top but I don’t have the budget at the moment so for the meantime I added 3 ikea round outdoor cushions which are doing the trick to raise the height of the bench a bit and add comfort but they are annoying because the kids kick them on the ground constantly. In the end the bench functions well and solves a few problems for us in our dining room by adding seating and storage without taking away any precious square footage.

I found this on Pinterest and it lead me to a Danish interior design influencer. From what I could translate it sounds like she used kitchen wall cabinets to create this and added padding to create the bench. Does that sound feasible? I’m wondering if it’s realistic to expect the cabinet to be able to hold someone’s weight while sitting on it

Ikea does bench sitting on some displays, I've seen them done with 40cm tall kitchen units and a butcherblock type top. I'd say add some L brackets to the inside, use a solid top and build a proper base (from wood, just don't use the plastic legs) and it will work.
