March 10, 2025Which Ikea Daybed? Help me pick!
I have the Flekke setup in my son's room. I really like it. I got it in 2023 and looked at the Brimnes also mostly because I wanted a white bed. The Flekke only came in dark brown in the US market. Either bed is nice think it depends on your requirements. I did notice it's pretty easy to find used Brimnes online. I felt like the Flekke was more durable better quality material. It's a wood veneer. Also the sides around the Flekke are lower than the Brimnes (15 3/8" vs 22 1/2") which better suited our needs. This bed doubles as a guest room for visitors and I wanted it to be easy for people to get into when set up a a short king. We have two 4 3/4" thick twin mattresses ( ikea VANNAREID) stacked on the bed when in daybed mode. So when pulled out to king size the mattresses are side by side and only 4 3/4" thick. The side rails of the Flekke still sits below the mattress, while the Brimnes side rails (22 1/2" tall) so they are slightly above the mattress. The distance from the bed slats to the top sides of the Flekke bed is 3.5". For our needs I thought it would be more comfortable to not bumping into the side rails. The one thing that I dislike about the bed is that it is hard to pull out into King mode because the room has wall to wall carpet. However I knew this from other reviews and all bed of this style seem to have this drawback. The drawers are very spacious! They are not full extension but hasn't been an issue. If you wanted full extension drawers you could always replace drawer slides. See photos. The slats have held up well with 2 crazy little boys. However I could see them breaking if: when. Pulled out the trundle piece is pulled out to far and doesn't rest on the support bar when pulled out into King mode, guest sleep /sit parallel to the bed slats. We're planning to use it mainly as a sofa in the living room. I have read more negative reviews when it is used a queen/king size bed. I want to hear some positive reviews too! Well, negative reviews are still welcome before we spend our money with this furniture.

Had one for 2 years now. No issues at all, quite comfortable but make sure to invest in mattresses. Building for me was physically a little hard but not complicated. I have moved with it as well and didn't have issues disassembling and reassembling it.

If you have the right mattress(es), it’s perfectly comfortable as a full bed! I’ve slept on it for at most one week in a row. Would not use it every night probably

Hey fellow IKEA peeps, recently got our LO an Ikea hemnes daybed. He absolutely loves it. I was eyeing it for a while and so glad we bought it.
I ordered online and had it delivered. Because I had a feeling thing was heavy and I was right! It comes in four boxes. I assembled it by myself (F, 5’7, 134lbs)— now I’d say it’s possible to do it alone BUT it helps if you enjoy putting things together and don’t mind breaking a bit of a sweat. It took me the better part of an entire afternoon. I also had to haul each singular piece upstairs, so it was a lot of trips because the boxes were too heavy on my own.
I love the color, we got the yellow. It’s not too bright, it’s a matte vs glossy finish, and feels fun in our kids room.
We used two 6” mattresses off Amazon. I tried to research endlessly what options felt the best and ultimately got these, https://a.co/d/fJhGENW. They are great. A medium firm. My LO is under 50lbs so not much weight is on them. They’re still a good width if we need to extend it and have them side by side for the king version.
Anyway, feel free to ask any Qs. The only thing, I’m not sure if all hemnes daybeds do this, but our bottom platform doesn’t fully sit against the upper frame. Added a photo. It’s not a deal breaker and doesn’t mess with the functionality— just pointing that out.
