This is a cost-saving design for Ikea; full-extension slides are a lot more money. There's a decent YouTube video on how to swap the original slides for full-extension type. Each pair (for one drawer) will cost you about $20 each. So, not an inexpensive swap. More on reddit.com

This hemnes is not solid wood. This was the plain white color, which they do not carry anymore. Currently, all of the Hemnes products are solid pine, and they are all stained, not painted.

I've had two Hemnes nightstands for probably 7 or 8 years and the drawers on these things have driven me crazy for a while. They have 9.25" of usable depth, but only come out 4.25". It's super annoying to have 5" of space that's hard to get anything out of. I'm curious if there's something I can do to the existing slides to make them come out full length? Or does anyone know of a replacement that will work? Appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Remove the drawer. Look inside the nightstand and observe the little track thingies that the drawer slides on. Notice how it’s set back a bit from the front. You need to move those thingies so they are closer to the front. There may already be screw holes just for this purpose, as I found when I put together the Hemnes 3 drawer chest just a few days ago.
