I've heard that some Ikea products are better than others. I'm wondering about the quality of their leather couches and stuffed chairs?
Will they last me 25 years like the set I'm replacing?
Thanks!!!
Because so many people in this forum helped me I must give back by giving in depth information about our experience and finally making the decision to purchase the Finnala Couch. For the past 5 years we have had a Living Spaces 5 piece reclining sectional in High Performance fabric. The cushions have broken down so much that we can feel the metal bars in the back area. The seat is to the frame also making it pretty uncomfortable. We have 2 large dogs who are allowed on the furniture. Even though we dont feel L.S. is super expensive, we do feel that it should have lasted more than 5 years. So when it came to replacing it we needed options. We didnt have a budget as we would drop a nice amount of money for such an important piece of furniture. However, after looking at the high end or popular brands like, West Elm, Mantle, Burrow, Restoration Hardware, Lovesac, Joybird, Pottery Barn, Room and Board, Crate and Barrel, Living Spaces etc etc... and reading the not so good reviews about durability, we were not going to drop a pretty penny only to have to replace the couch in 5 years. We found a Costco couch that did have good reviews but it was not modular and was not big enough for us. Being that Ikea offers a 180 day return policy was the first plus for us. If we dont like it we return it and they will pick it up. All of the cushions on the Finnala have a zipper making the inner cushion replaceable in the event they do break down. The Finnala is completely modular. This allowed us to create a configuration that worked for us as we needed at least 126 inches to fit us and two very large dogs. We could also add to it later on if we wanted to create a sectional or separate pieces to make stand alone pieces by adding the arm rests. Having a leather option was also great. We felt that we were done with fabric couches. However, the Finnala comes with several washable covers so that is even a good positive. On top of all of that, there is a 10 year warranty. We ordered the 3 seater couch, chaise, two arm rests and an ottoman. It was delivered the next day with plenty of delivery notifications. It took my husband 45 minutes to put it together. You have to put the frame back onto the bottom and attach the arm rests and chaise. While he was doing that I removed the boxes and wrapping. I also removed the cushions from shrink wrap and put them inside of the covers. I highly recommend NOT waiting the 72 hour recommendation to do this as it was a struggle enough doing it instantly. I could not imagine waiting for the cushions to reach full capacity. The feet came with white felt bottoms which was nice in a pinch if we didnt already have black ones to match. I may replace the feet as they aren't the most stylish but nothing that only I would notice. The height of the feet is perfect for us as we have a dog who is constantly playing with toys and they cannot fit under the couch! The ottoman is really big and two people could fit on it . The leather is super nice and soft with a slight leather smell. The cushions are firm but squishy. You do not sink in these cushions. But they are comfortable. We opted to get the headrests and are so glad we did. The only thing that bothers me about those is they have silver metal that shows from the back but that can be fixed with some metal paint down the line. These make the binge reading or TV watching so comfortable. My husband is 6'4 and the seat/back/head rest height/depth is great for him. The chaise and ottoman has ample storage too! I just haven't found any negatives other than the little nit picky things I have already mentioned. I will update this post after 30 days but everyone in here who answered my questions, I thank you. Hopefully this is a story with a happy ending. Please do not hesitate to ask if you are trying to make a decision in regards to this couch.
