Update: I have purchased from several places recommended. I'm starting out testing the JLife. Shipping and Delivery was super fast. Ordered the traditional 3 inch with a few covers and a queen tatami. Definitely very comfortable. My dad slept on it for 2 nights and gave it a 10.
I'm in the process of designing one of my rooms. Initially I was going to get the Ikea Vallentuna to use as a daybed that converts to an actual bed when guests come. Well...they discontinued it. So I decided to stick with what I know. I ordered a twin Floyd bed and want to purchase a few Shikibuton mattresses for sleeping. I don't want those made from China Amazon futons either. So I figured I'd ask here to see if any of you floor sleepers have any recommendations. I'm open to cotton or even buckwheat filling. And advice on this is appreciated and I don't have a budget as I know they aren't cheap.
I love Japanese Shikibutton mattresses and I like to sleep on the ground, but I'm looking for a way to have the same firm natural fabric mattress but put it on an elevated bed frame. The important thing is that I don't want anything memory foam or a spring mattress. I like something 100% natural like the traditional Japanese ones and It must be firm. Any suggestions?

I'm moving next week back into my own apartment. After living for over a year in my sister's living room, I'm very excited.
Back when I had an apartment, I had a nice foam mattress from IKEA that I simply laid on the floor of my room and used it to sleep on. After living with my sister and having no bedroom, I slept on the sofa quite comfortably for a couple of months but decided I needed something else. So I ordered a single shikibuton from Amazon and - WOW! I've never had better sleep. Now that I'm going to have my own room again, I'm going to order a queen sized one and save the single for when my son spends the night.
I'm trying to make the room not look so "college" though. I'd like to have a tatami mat under the shikibuton, but the ones I've come across are more expensive than I can afford right now. I was thinking about a nice sisal rug to have underneath instead. Something like this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50270315/#/20270312 Beyond looks, is there any benefit that a tatami mat would offer that a sisal or jute rug wouldn't?
