Going to replace my Hemnes bed frame with malm for better storage. Is the storage box worth it?
I am moving into a very small bedroom (about 7.5 x 9.5 feet) in NYC with decent closet space and a slightly awkward shape. I previously had a minimal bed frame and stored seasonal stuff and shoe bags underneath, but secretly hated how it accumulated dust especially (I learned I’m extra sensitive to pollen when the seasons change and it drives me crazy). My new room cannot fit a full and a dresser, it can actually not really fit more than a full and small side table, but I plan to utilize that “extra” space differently. So ultimately, my remaining clothes need to go under the bed somehow.
Is the Malm storage bed only a good idea for long-term storage? It looks like I could really maximize it for anything I want, and would give me flexibility to organizer folded clothes, underwear, bulky items, etc. in whichever way fits me. But if I’m struggling to open it 2-3x a day or it breaks down quickly I don’t see how it’s worth it.
I have also considered a frame with underbed dressers but my room size would limit how far back I can pull them out. And then I feel like I’m wasting half of the storage since I would struggling to pull the bed out to reach back there (my bed will obviously be against a wall). I’ve also considered a loft or half lofted bed but I think that could make the room feel smaller/more cramped. Also more expensive option.
Please let me know if you think another brand sells a more sustainable/lightweight version of this! I’m small but not weak, so it doesn’t need to be light as a feather.
I’m a fan of the MALM storage drawers, but have a TARVA frame and am wondering if the two are compatible. I can’t seem to find anyone else who’s tried to do this online, and the dimensions on the storage drawers that ikea provides online do not clearly show the needed clearance. Has anyone else tried this setup? Alternatively, if someone could provide the height from the floor to the top of the back of the drawers (I.e. the minimum necessary clearance), which is not clearly indicated online, I could determine this on my own.
Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a new Queen sized Malm lift storage bed for my short term rental as i need additional storage space for extra linens and towels.
Does anyone with the bed have any anecdotal thoughts on the sturdiness of the bed or how well it has held up?
Thanks in advance!
