I got my first job at a relatively small company that develops JEE software. We use eclipse, but it's getting older, and as far as i'm concerned, it is super slow (lags every time i switch a tab for example) and clumsy, and I found I'm far more efficient with intellij. I'd like to ask for IntelliJ Ultimate, so we might run / debug tomcat server, and use the tools at our disposal, but 600$ a single license is a no go. I can't ask to switch to IDEA, even though I am far less efficient with eclipse (also, I can't import some packages inside a jsp for whatever reason in eclipse - works fine in IntelliJ). Any way I could develop spring + tomcat software with community / talk to my manager ?

It says: "Yes, you can use your license for any kind of development.
However, only you may use your personal license; you may not share it with others.
Also your company cannot pay, reimburse, or in any way finance your personal license."
I believe it would be a great personal investment for you to buy the personal license. Why not buy a personal license and let the rest suffer, up the ladder you go.
IntelliJ IDEA is super expensive

I don't need the extra features of ultimate but I pay for a personal license just to support development of a great product.
