January 2, 2020 - Based on the lighting in your shot, Apple conveniently installed night mode to turn on in the wide and telephoto cameras automatically. When you’re taking pictures of the night sky, or at a dimly lit party, night mode will turn on and take low-light shots. You can manually adjust the lighting by tapping the moon icon in the top left corner. To take a burst of photos on the iPhone 11 Pro, hold down the shutter button and swipe it to the left side of the screen.

r/apple on Reddit: Tips on taking photos with IPhone 11
October 11, 2020 -

Just got a brand new IPhone 11 and so far I am very pleased, though I need some tips in taking photos with this device. Are there any best settings or just general tips on taking photos? Also when you set your IPhone 11 in low battery mode and when your iPhone in general is low on battery %, does the camera quality go down to save power until your charge it? Thank you very much, and Merry Christmas!

If you open the camera app there is a small arrow at the top of the screen, select it to open a menu at the bottom of the screen. Scroll all the way to the right and find 3 overlapping rings. Click this to open a menu with various filters and play with those for various effects. I find vivid works nice when there are lots of colors or you’re out in nature. For the selfie camera, go to the phones settings and click Camera. Turn on “Mirror Front Camera” so that pics you take with the front camera don’t get flipped.

If you need tips for taking good pictures please for the love of god don’t shoot RAW, unless you want to spend hours editing every single picture you take. RAW actually makes your pictures look WORSE, but gives you more to work with when editing. Just taking normal pictures it’s more than good enough, and you can still edit them to make them look great. And this is coming from someone who does professional photography and shot a wedding using my iPhone, and had a producer out of LA want to use some iPhone video I took for his sizzle reel to pitch to a network. Just use your normal camera app, and use the normal camera for best image quality. Only use the wide angle when you want to take a picture of a room or something indoors. Trust me. Learn to play with the stock editor built into the photos app, it’s really great and for most pictures just having it “auto” edit does a great job. If you want to step up your video quality, buy a mobile gimbal, like the DJI ones, I forgot what it’s called. But honestly the built in image stabilization is really good on its own!
