After a lot of research, I found the solution. When you turn on the front camera on the iPhone camera, there is an arrow icon just below the screen that zooms in and out the image on the screen. If you zoom in on the image, it records 7 megapixels, if you expand it, it records 12 megapixels.

I have been using Iphone 13 for about a year. I recently observed that the pics that I take are all having a resolution of 9MP. No matter which format I use (HEIF/JPEG). The only pics which have 12MP are the portraits. This wasnt the case in the beginning. Is it because I updated the phone to IOS 17 beta? Or am I missing something?

Here’s the answer: you need to use a 4:3 picture aspect ration to use all 4032x3024 pixels. You might have set your picture ratio to 16:9, which cuts off some of those pixels, and reduces the resolution of the image.

hi guys! i currently have a samsung a53 5g and was thinking about switching to an iphone 13. have never tried apple products in my life. a phone with a good camera is very important to me, and i really hate how my samsung oversharpens videos as well as the stabilization setting sometimes making things look wonky. when i turn off stabilization, i hate how wobbly it is so there's no winning. i've been surfing reddit and saw people mentioning how bad the iphone 13 camera is... should i stay away from the 13 if i'm picky about photo/video quality?
