Does the Iphone 13 come with a USB C cable or USB A? If it uses USB A, will using a USB C harm the phone?
Videos
Almost everything about this phone is perfect for me except for the charging port, it's so annoying having to keep a lightning cord for just this one thing.
Just got my first iPhone (13 pro) and was surprised it didn't have anything but a cable to charge. No plug. On top of that the stupid cable they included is a USB-C. I probably have fifteen standard USB plugin's and a single USB-C hiding somewhere that isn't used because it's impractical. Why would Apple not at least include a USB-C to USB adapter? Do they just assume they are done getting new customers? A battery is sort of a requirement to use a phone.
Very annoyed.
I don't wanna throw away my 2 meters lightning cable that I would use with my previous iPhone.
I'm a mac user with little to no idea about Iphones. My friend's buying an Iphone 13 and I have a extra 70W usb c power adapter. Will this work with iPhone 13? Will there be any problem with 70W?
Curious if this new cable allows for faster charging compared to the old USB-to-Lightning cables. This new USB-C sorta invalidates all of my portable chargers, which only have USB (and Micro USB) outputs... so I'd like to know any advantages of this USB-C cable, if any. Thanks!
What’s great: one cable to rule them all
Finally one cable that charges iPhone, AirPods, iPad, MacBook and a ton of competition - it’s great
What’s not so great: it’s fragile
It might be my unit but some cables are not fully snug in the port. Slight wiggle and connection is terminated. This is often obvious with CarPlay. I feel that lightning was a more superior connection in terms of fit and durability
What’s your take?
i would love to find a charging battery case with usb-c
My iPhone 13 Pro is working just fine:
-
I got the battery replaced last year, and it's now at 87%.
-
Battery life (~1 day with my use) is still shorter than I'd like, but newer models don't seem to have meaningfully improved on that.
-
I had some truly awful performance issues (completely freezing multiple times a day), but that's gone away since I uninstalled Twitter, so I think that was just the new and shitty Twitter.
-
Some screen burn-in, but that's an issue with all smartphones.
My ONLY frustration is with the Lightning port. I'm sick of carrying two chargers everywhere—a wall USB-C charger for my laptop and AirPods, and a Lightning cable for my iPhone. I've had several times when my phone died on me outside because I'd forgotten to pack my Lightning cable that morning.
Here are some of the key iPhone 14+ Pro features in comparison:
-
Dynamic Island: Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing, but I don't feel a strong need for it.
-
Action Button: Same as above.
-
Apple Intelligence: Don't care.

>>>>USB-C<<<<
I'm tempted to upgrade JUST for the USB-C. But USB-C seems like such a trivial reason to drop ~$1,100. Do any of y'all feel the same about upgrading? Have y'all upgraded from 13 Pro to 15 Pro (or ordered 16 Pro) for the same reason?
I think the iphone 13 is a fabulous phone.
The only big problem I have with putting money on it is the lack of type-C charging port. All my devices are Type-C including my Macbook Air M1 is charging via Type-C.
I don't know what to do and how to go forward. Otherwise I think the iphone 13 is fantastic.
Any suggestions?
I have 3/4 USB C cables and plugs and none of them charge my phone, while USB A to lightning works perfectly.
Using iPhone 13, any reason why this is happening?
The cable that works is a cheap non Apple one, while two Apple USB C plug and cables don’t work
Hi! I just got an iPhone 13 and the salesman told me that using the charger I currently own (an Anker USB-A to Lightning Jack) will decrease my battery life and I need to always use the USB-C to Lightning Jack that came with the phone (and the wall adapter block I had to buy separately). Is what he said true? Do I need to throw out my old charger? Help!
So basically, my original USB C to lightning is not working. I have a spare lightning USB A to lightning. I plugged it in and it does work, however I’m wondering if it is ok to do so. Since the iPhone 13 was designed with USB C correct?
I've always charged my iphone 13 with a 20W type c charger (certfied by apple) and it was doing a fine job at that. A week ago, my type c charger stopped working and I can only charge with a type A charger, which is way slower. I have tried replacing the cable and/or plugging it into the usb-c port on my laptop to no avail, it's as if my phone stopped supporting those cables ??
Btw, I have cleaned my charging port thoroughly, to no avail.
Well, exactly as in the title. I'd love to know your thoughts about it!
I worked for Apple from 2011 to 2019 at the Genius Bar, If a mod wants me too I can send a pic of my 5 year plaque at a moments notice, give me some time and I can get a few old paystubs or w-2.
I am not an engineer, I only worked on the front lines fixing peoples phones and crap so all my MY knowledge is practical, and comes from doing the actual work not sitting in some office going 'Hey this'd be a great idea!'
I am going to also say I love USB-C, it's a great standard and deserves every bit of praise it gets, and the switch to USB-C on the iPads is the best idea from a productivity standpoint.
The reason USB-C on the phones is the worst goddamn idea is because the majority of iPhone users are filthy fucking animals.
If I told you how many phones a day I had to peel a case off of and go at with alcohol wipes you'd vomit. The crusty brown that accumulates around the speakers and charging port is astounding. Even your precious otterboxs and lifeproof cases you tout protect your phone against so much are far from immune, each sealing in the oh so delicious flavor of your hazelnut iced coffee you spill on the phone.
Most users stick the phone in their pocket which is a logical idea, since you know, you want the damn phone with you. Yet again though, users are disgusting fucking monsters who get lint in the port constantly and then go to plug the phone in packing the lint in like a Union Soldier about to return fire.
I'd say that if about 25% of my day was picking out impacted lint and DIRT (Actual dirt, could have been something else but I don't want to think about it) and watching it crumble out onto the bench, and this was AFTER the aformentioned scrubdown with an alcohol wipe, but that could be an understatement as sometimes people would come in without an appointment to show me and I'd knock it out without even booking them in it was so easy to diagnose.
But I've complained enough about the filthy people's devices I serviced, why do I think USB-C is a terrible idea? Because a sensitive port that will (not if, will) get impacted by debris is a lot easier to clean if the pins/connectors have clearance to get around compared to how tightly packed a USB-C port is. Now those of you Apple users who routinely put a USB-C device in their pocket who claim 'Well I never get debris in MY charging port!', congrats. Seriously congrats, that's impressive. You are however an outlier or a liar.
The best thing I find to clean out a lighting port? A hardened sim-card eject tool that's small enough to fit into the base of the port but thin enough to maneuver around the pins and strong enough not to bend. Paper clips can do in a pinch, but the level of impact I dealt with they'd be bent to shit after cleaning one port.
The VAST majority of iPhone users (actually all smart device users) don't really get how devices like these work or even how to best maintain them. If you ever work in IT, you absolutely know the line "i JuSt DoN'T GeT tHis tEcHnoloGY THiNg, i'M a pHilstiNE" older users throw out, or users even younger than you not really caring about why leaving your phone on your car dash in direct sunlight with the heat blowing around it might be a bad idea.
TL:DR - I worked for Apple most of my adult life, people are disgusting, cleaning a USB-C port sucks, everything else about USB-C is great.
Those are my complaints about putting USB-C on the iPhone (Or really any pocket device where debris can accumulate). If USB was inverted where you didn't have a think piece of plastic supporting all the data connectors (What lightning looks like on the OG iPad Pro) I'd be all for it.
Edit: Going back to 2011, I’d like to also add the amount of damage I saw standard users doing to the 30-pin connectors. I attribute a significantly increased amount of tech knowledge to this subreddit, but it’s grossly outweighed by the amount of people who use smart devices but don’t know to take care of them.
Just curious I personally think that Apple should make the switch. But I'd like to hear your thoughts.
