I've had my iPhone 12 mini for about 2 years almost. The battery shows 85 percent capactiy and I imagine the battery isn't that large given the phone size. I am also noticing battery life deplete faster.
Is it worth getting the battery replaced for $89 dollars that apple charges? Or shouold I just upgrade to the new iPhone 15. (it does suck apple will not be offering a mini model anymore).

Hello,
My iPhone 13 mini currently has 85% battery health, I don’t use it heaps but often my battery is either in the red or dead by the end of the day; it comes off charge around 7am and back on charge around 10pm.
I don’t remember noticing low battery when I first got the phone. I wonder if anybody has had the battery replaced at around 85% and noticed a big difference?
How close to 80 would you take it to the Apple Store for a replacement?
I bought the phone used on eBay, I was wondering, is worth it to change the battery on Apple for a new one? The battery holds as a lock, I disconnect the phone at 8 am, I charge it again at 2:00 PM to 3:00PM and holds all day long almost to bed time (heavy use, even using 5G), but my friend told me that this phone’s battery is pretty good when is new. Do you guys think that I will notice a difference if I pay for a full new battery or should I stay with this battery and do not get a new one?
Edit 1: Hey, thanks for all your responses!!, I’m going to change the battery this week, for all the people that are saying that Apple only replace the battery if it is 80% or lower that’s not true, the battery replacement is $89 plus taxes, I’ll keep you guys updated when I get my new battery and of course in the next couple of weeks I’ll edit again to let know if was worth it the change.
Saw on offer for this on used market, although battery was boosted to 100% health but it’s actual count is 85% . Any advice on what to do or believe in?☺️
Mine’s 3 years old at 85% battery health, able to sustain 8-9H SOT with light usage (i.e. web browsing, reddit, some light gaming). When playing heavy games, am able to get around 3H on full charge. Is sufficient for me to get through a day and a half usually, although watch out if you have weak cellular reception at your area, standby battery usage can be high
Actually am still on iOS 15.4.1 don’t want the update either
Mine is at 78%, functions ok but needs to be charged 1x per day, at least.
EDIT: Thank you for the feedback/comments/experience everyone! I appreciate it!
EDIT: I ended up getting a new battery at apple in May 2022. Best decision!
Hopefully this is the most appropriate place to ask for assistance regarding battery. As the title says, I got a launch day iPhone 12 Pro Max and was about to pass it down when I noticed battery health at 85% despite being less than a year of usage. Unboxed Nov 14, 2020 and have been using it daily with a mix of cable & wireless charging.
Had a couple instances when multitasking the phone would get a bit warm and get ridiculously slow which rebooting didn’t fix, so now thinking about it could it be battery related?
According to coconut battery, cycle count is only about 270. To have gone down by 15% in that amount of cycles is a bit fast isn’t it?
Wireless charging can take a big hit on battery degradation
iPhone batteries are rated to keep 80% of their original capacity after 500 cycles. So you’re a little ahead of the curve. If you’re lucky and the battery goes down below 80% before a full year, Apple should replace the battery for free.
I’m at 91% capacity but that’s with near exclusive use of MagSafe and at least a charge a day, thanks to Pokémon Go
General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:
Battery health
Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.
Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.
You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.
You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.
Battery life
Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:
Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging
If you experience issues with your battery:
Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
Review the advice below on maximising battery life
Consider restoring your device.
If issues persist, contact Apple Support.
Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.
Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
Remove apps from background app refresh
Ensure auto lock is on
Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life
Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.
Avoid extreme temperatures
If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage
Hi all, just got the 13 mini and love it so far, it’s been great. The battery capacity is 85 percent right now and I get a full day out of it currently so I have no complaints there, but I want to enjoy this phone for a long time. I heard that a waning battery can impact performance and I have the money right now to afford a one hour replacement at a reputable place local to me. Should I replace it, or hold off until 80%?
