Currently trying to clear up space on my iPhone storage - I’ve deleted all large attachments but it still shows that it’s taking up 12.75GB. When I click Messages it says it’s photos within my messages that are taking up space. But I’ve deleted it all? Anyone have any advice? I’m at wits end with this storage stuff - and I pay $9.99 for iCloud too!

Most apps store cache as “Documents and Data”, which clears when you uninstall it. This doesn’t usually mess with data “linked” to your account though. e.g. if I uninstalled then reinstalled YouTube, I’d get back 1.25GB of storage when I reinstall it (because it clears whatever is in Documents and Data). But I wouldn’t lose my playlists or anything since that’s all linked to my Google account. Yes, it’s only temporary and it’s bogus we need to reinstall entire apps to clear their junk, but if you really need storage, uninstall then reinstall some apps. You should get a few GB back for a little while. Edit: you can also use this photo compress app https://apps.apple.com/us/app/compress-photos-pictures/id1449007043 . There’s a video version by the same person. I’ve saved 10’s of GBs over the years with these two apps.

May 19, 2023 - The only solution I’ve found to this is to delete and reinstall apps. Apps such as Spotify,YouTube, and discord were the main culprits on my phone (Spotify having 3gbs worth YouTube 5gbs and discord having 7 gbs worth). This could also be happening with other messaging or video based apps.

Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and enable Offload Unused Apps - this automatically removes apps you don’t use while keeping their data. Also, use Optimize iPhone Storage in Photos to store full-resolution images in iCloud instead of your device. If you need more space, clear Safari cache, delete large messages, and review downloads in apps like WhatsApp and Telegram. Another free way is using cleaner apps like Clever Cleaner App, which has no paywalls. It deletes duplicate photos, finds large videos, and even compresses Live Photos to save space. This free app is here https://apps.apple.com/us/app/clever-cleaner-ai-cleanup-app/id1666645584 You will thank me later. Good luck!

Adjust These Settings to Free Up Storage Space on iPhone Without Deleting Anything - CNET
October 30, 2025 - Depending on how many photos and videos you have on your iPhone, this can take up quite a bit of time, but once it's finished, you should see significantly more space on your device storage. For this to work, you need to have the iCloud Photos setting turned on. Screenshot by Nelson Aguilar/CNET · All of your full-resolution photos and videos are then transferred over to your iCloud, while smaller, lower-resolution versions are kept on your device, to take up less space.

How to clear storage on iPhone (without the stress)
September 1, 2025 - Today’s iPhones come with a lot of storage capacity, but it’s not unlimited, and no matter how much space they add to new phones, we find more ways to use up the space they give us. HD videos are notorious storage hogs, but even those high-res photos take up gigabytes of space. While you may feel like you’ll never run out of space, eventually that dreaded ‘Storage Almost Full’ message will pop up, and you’ll have to make some tough decisions.
