June 24 now. My first generation Apple Watch is still going strong. It still counts steps, displays my texts, replies and I can still answer calls. I have notifications apart from texts turned off to save battery life, but basic functions all still work. Heart monitor etc all working fine.

I don't have the money for a brand ... You can definitely use the Apple Watch (1st generation) to do all of the above and more, but it will not support the latest versions of watchOS....

Even if it still pairs, I don't think anyone will want a first gen Apple watch. I see Apple watches and to a certain degree phones, as disposable after a few years. Especially generation 1 anything.
