I bought these earphones shortly after they came out last spring I believe. I wanted something I could workout with, and keep on if I wanted to shower (not wash my hair ofc). I wanted good bass, good noise canceling, and something with a long battery life that won’t fall out.
PROS: -VERY long battery life. I’d wear them for hours and hours and hours and they wouldn’t die. I’d only charge the case one every couple weeks, and it was a quick charge. -they are water resistant- I’ve taken many showers with them (but carefully, not trying to get them wet). -somewhat durable/durable case.
CONS: -so fucking uncomfortable. They would make my ears sore. No real way to change the size of them like in others where you can switch out the rubber tips- bc of how big they are. -horrible volume- even at its most loud, wasn’t loud at all imo. Not noise canceling at all. It always sounded far away… they just didn’t fit right in my ears and were not soft or forgiving. -one of them randomly one day just lost 75% of its audio ability. Literally operating max 25% volume (which already was low) at FULL volume. Most of the time just couldn’t hear anything at all. -tap to control volume/play pause ect was annoying real fast. It was so sensitive even the slightest accidental brush would pause it.
I lost the left one a week ago and finally had an excuse to buy new ones. Bought the nothing ear (a) and already SO in love with them-will report back as time goes on!! Not to expensive either.
TLDR; fuck JBL endurance peak 3 don’t wast ur money or time. Your ears will thank you.
I'm still looking for earbuds to replace my Freebuds Pro (1st Gen) at the gym. The battery doesn't even last an hour with ANC off.
I bought the Galaxy Buds FE, but got a White Noise issue in the right earbud (a wind noise) when ANC or Ambient sound is on. What a shame, they cost R$300 and I thought the sound was great for the price. The ANC, however, was super weak... You can't expect top-notch ANC at that price point, and definitely can't compare it to the Freebuds Pro which, even after a few years, are top-of-the-line.
But let's move on!
About the JBL Endurance Race 2:
-
First off, they look REALLY ugly in my ears. They stick out and look huge. Maybe it's because my ears are small;
-
Speaking of my ear shape, I used the L (largest) ear tip. I wonder if any of the ear tips would fit someone with big ears;
-
The sound is reeeally bad. Way worse than other options, like the Galaxy Buds FE (which costs half the price) and the Freebuds 6i (same R$500). Must be because of the 6.8 mm driver. No EQ fixed it;
-
You can feel the earbuds in your ear, especially when you're walking. Kinda weird... First time I've had that feeling with TWS earbuds;
-
The ANC is practically nonexistent! Luckily, it passively isolates sound pretty well because of its design. If it blocked 15% of the gym noise, that was a lot. The Freebuds 6i are ridiculously better here;
-
The touch sensors are not very sensitive, you need to tap hard for them to register, and they're slow. Increasing/decreasing volume or skipping tracks has a 1-second or slightly longer delay;
-
There's no proximity sensor to pause music when you take the earbuds out. I only realized how much of a difference this makes on these, since they don't have this feature;
-
Lastly, the app takes forever to recognize the earbuds. With other brands, you open the app and you're good to go. And this isn't just when you connect the earbuds, but every time you open the app.
Positive Points:
• The IP68 protection. The Freebuds Pro didn't have any and never had a problem in 3 years. I've been caught in the rain and sweated a lot during runs with them;
• The case shows the battery percentage with an illuminated bar. Pretty cool!;
• You can disable the voice prompts for ANC on/off and Ambient Mode;
• Insane battery!!! Only 10%/h with ANC on;
• The gestures can be controlled individually on each earbud. I controlled volume on the left and pause/skip/rewind on the right;
• You can set the earbuds to automatically turn off when they're out of the case for too long to save power;
Overall, the cons didn't outweigh the pros for me.
Thinking about buying the Anker X20 or even the Freebuds 6i (what I mentioned about them in the review was from tests I did with my friend's). The problem with the Anker is the lack of warranty in Brazil.
In the end, I always end up going with Huawei. I've had the Freebuds 3, Pro and SE 2 (best TWS for home use. EXCELLENT sound for the price, insane battery life, and you almost forget you're wearing them because they're so light and comfortable. Not good for outdoor use because there's no isolation, not even passive). For work and leisure I use the Sony WH-1000XM5. I even considered getting the WF-1000XM5, but R$2,000 for earbuds just for the gym is crazy.
Anyway! If anyone has a recommendation for good gym earbuds around R$500 with a warranty in Brazil, I would be immensely grateful!
