Keychron Q1 Version 2 Review - The Linux Cast
October 3, 2022 - The build quality was horrible, it had connectivity problems, and the Bluetooth never worked. It was just really, really bad. But supposedly, Keychron has gotten better over the last few years as they started to appeal to the more custom mech crowd. So, I bought the Q1v2, and I received it ...

r/mkindia on Reddit: Keychron Q1 V2 review with seller feedback
May 23, 2024 -

First of all, huge thanks to u/chimera86o for selling the keyboard and switches to me. They were great, and no issues at all with the keeb. It's in perfect mint condition, and all accessories are intact. I highly recommend him for anything you might need.

Coming to the keyboard, here is my review after a month of use:

  • The keyboard is sturdy with great build quality

  • The switches are Akko cream yellow, and the keys have no rattle when attached.

  • I feel the stock foam is mediocre and very thin, making the sound a bit too high and hollow. Hence, I have personally modded the keeb. I did the tempest tape mod and the foam mod. I bought some art foam from here and cut one piece into the shape for the back. I also put 2 layers of medical tape on the back of the PCB. This reduced the high-pitched clacks of the keeb, and now has a medium poppy sound. Interested can see the sound test here.

  • One super fact about the keeb is that the dimensions of this keeb with the feet placement make it perfectly seat on top of my MacBook Air M1 without pressing any of my laptop's keys. That way, you can use this keeb connected to your laptop and have the laptop on your lap while working (My ways of working :P)

  • The keycaps I use are Grimmer Keycaps, which make the sound deeper. It's an XDA profile, which I recommend for "on-the-lap" use and gaming.

  • The knob has a bit too much bump per turn for my preference and is not as smooth as a Monsgeek M1 knob.

  • The modding process was easy, and opening the board was also pretty easy. No prying is needed.

Do let me know if there's any other feedback you would like based on the keeb. Once again, thanks to u/chimera86o for the main board and switches.

High-end build quality and masses of customization options make this a desirable keyboard but this is reflected in its fairly high price. Sleek looks, great versatility and unparalleled durability makes the Q1 V2 a superb keyboard, but you’ll have to pay for it.

r/Keychron on Reddit: My Q1 Version 2 just arrived. I haven’t noticed any major differences yet.
April 22, 2022 - Slightly thicker bottom case to make the Q1 heavier, sturdier, and has much less ping noise. Steel plate instead of an aluminum plate, making the board heavier and sturdier. The top case has sharper corners to make it much more compatible with third-party keycaps. Abandoned the Coiled Aviator Cable to save some costs. New screw-in PCB stabilizer. ... V1 was shipped with an aviator cable, check any of the 1000 reviews on YouTube. ... The knob version 1 is essentially the v2 the v1 knob fixed a lot of the ping issue with the original I had an original v1 and it the difference in pinging was pretty noticeably different More replies

r/Keychron on Reddit: Trying to decide between the Q1 V2 or Q1 Pro? (75%)

I'm just trying to figure out which one overall has the better stock quality. I plan on using the board as is for awhile before I start modifying things. I also saw the switches come prelubed which I know is frowned upon in the Mechanical Keyboard community but I figure some lube is better than none.

Which do you guys think is the better stock experience if I don't plan on using the bluetooth at all? (I figure the bluetooth just wont last that long if I'm using the RGB 24/7)

r/Keychron on Reddit: Which one should I get Q1 v2 or Q3
January 8, 2023 -

Hello people,

I've been researching the mechanical keyboards, and I came to a conclusion to get either a Q1 version 2, or a Q3.
I have no preference between 75% and TKL, both are perfectly fine.

What I would like to hear from you is how satisfied are you with your Q1/Q3, does one have a better sound isolation, less ping, etc. Which one is easier to mode to have better acoustics?
It would be perfect to have someone who typed on both Q1 and Q3.

Thanks a lot!

While I know you asked for someone who has used both, I can only offer info on using the Q1v2. I didn't have any ping issues on the stock board. Mods I have done with few issues tape mod swapped plate to FR4 swapped switches to aliaz swapped keycaps to SA profile None of the changes were particularly difficult. I will say that unless you utilize the extra keyspace, I've been pretty happy with using a 75% board. It gives me my main keys, and in a slightly smaller profile. Also, when swapping switches/keycaps, it was nice having fewer things to swap around. Probably not a major issue overall, but I did appreciate it in the moment.

I have the Q1. I don't have the Q3, but I do have other TKLs, so I think I can add my two cents. If you get a Q3, you won't have to adapt to a new set up, because if you've been using full size, a TKL is basically the same as a full-size minus the numpad. If you use the keys in between the main KB and the numpad, then a TKL makes a lot of sense. The only thing that I don't like about the Q3 is where they positioned the knob. If you get the Q1, you will have to recalibrate your typing because the arrow keys are closer to the main board. The right SHIFT key is also smaller. If you use the DELETE key routinely, then it will be a bit weird clicking all the way on the top of the keyboard in order to use the DELETE key in the Q1, because you will most likely expect it to be next to the backwards slash key. The last column of keys on the Q1 is Pg Up, Pg Dn, and Home, which is a weird combination for me. I don't really use those, and it would be better (at least for me) to use Home, End, and something else. Because the Q1 keys are remappable, I was able to do just that. Of course, that means being able to use VIA or QMK for remapping purposes. Depending on the keycaps that you have, working with the 3 keys to the right of the Q1 may be tricky, especially if you plan to remap.

r/Keychron on Reddit: Q1 V2 - Doesn't feel like a Q1 Pro or Q12? Why?
December 21, 2023 -

I have a (recently acquired) Q1 V2 with Gateron G Pro Blue switches, as well as a Q12 and Q1 Pro, both with Cherry MX2A Blue, and all are otherwise stock. The latter two feel pretty similar, but the Q1 V2 feels quite a bit less substantial. I swapped switches to make sure that wasn't why. I also find it odd that the Q12 feels extremely similar to the Q1 Pro, to the point that the Q12 almost seems like a "Pro" keyboard with the exception of lacking Bluetooth.

Bottom line: What are the differences between the Q1 V2 and the other two that would result in this difference? What could I do to rectify this?
