Why does King George sing alone?
His solos emphasize monarchy's isolation and egocentrism. Unlike democratic discourse, which involves many voices, George rules — and sings — alone, reinforcing the musical’s ideological contrast between monarchy and republic.

I Know Him Lyrics — Hamilton (Musical)
What inspired Lin-Manuel Miranda to write this song?
The song was sparked during his honeymoon, with Hugh Laurie jokingly saying “Aww, you’ll be back.” Miranda turned that quip into the song’s concept — a tyrant writing a delusional love letter to his revolting colonies.

Every song in Hamilton is connected... except ONE.
It’s not in the soundtrack, but I think the transition between You‘ll be Back and Right Hand Man has a Farmer Refuted callback. More on reddit.com

There Are 2 Lines in the Hamilton Songs that I Don't Understand.
I thought the "she can't take another heartbreak" bit was referring to Hamilton's affair since this song is right after Burn. But I also though it was a bit shitty of him to say that, because whose fault is that? haha More on reddit.com

King George with his 3 songs is the biggest relatable mood in Hamilton. Change my mind. My favourate part is where he goes Da da da da daaaa. Can relate to that quite a lot as a British person. Ye America has Alex but do you have a king who is just amazing? No didn't think so ;)
Haha i totally agree hes such a mood. I saw it in the West End last year before I had even listened to the soundtrack and he's by far the most memorable part lol. As you put it, its great to be British More on reddit.com

r/hamiltonmusical on Reddit: Every song in Hamilton is connected... except ONE.
April 1, 2023 -

Most songs are connected to each other. Either by specific lyrics, instrumental segments (sorry, not a music guy, no idea what to call them), even titles.

Alexander Hamilton, A Winter's Ball, Guns & Ships, What'd I Miss, The Adams Administration, & Your Obedient Servant all start with "How Does"

Schuyler Sisters, The Story of Tonight, Stay Alive, & Cabinet Battle have sequels/reprise. You'll Be Back having two.

The World Was Wide Enough "samples' The Ten Duel Commandments.

The Reynolds Pamphlet carries some of Angelica's iconic lines from Satisfied.

The Room Where It Happens samples Wait For It.

BOWABOW samples It's Quiet Uptown.

Heck, Non-Stop samples a crap ton of Act 1. (Hey, that rhymes, nice.)

And many many more connections that I am too lazy to enumerate... But please, have fun in the comments finishing the list.

Back to the point, all songs carry off from other songs. EXCEPT ONE.

That being...

Can you guess?

FARMER REFUTED.

Searched through the whole soundtrack, and no lyrics from this song are repeated, and it doesn't repeat lyrics from previous songs, no instrumental segments, are carried into this, nor are there any from this song that are carried into others. At least not significant enough for me to notice.

You could say the line "For the revolution" could count, but I don't, because it is not said in that specific way in any other song. The line may be common, but it's not like, say "Rise up".

But alas, I am only human, therefore, I make mistakes. So feel free to correct me (politely, hopefully) or to add to any of the lists in here.

Hamilton: What King George's Song Chorus Really Means
July 13, 2020 - Related: Hamilton True Story: What Did Lin-Manuel Miranda Change? The chorus that is shared between all of King George's songs does not have proper lyrics, instead consisting only of melodic "da da das," which stands out in Hamilton in particular because every other song is so meticulous in its word choice.

r/hamiltonmusical on Reddit: My theory on King George's nonsense lyrics
July 5, 2020 -

So I'm new to Hamilton generally and the King has probably my favorite songs. I think it's interesting that he's really the only one with nonsense style filler lyrics.

My theory is that this is meant to express that he's a fool and even when he's talking all people really hear is dah dah dah etc.

(It reminds me of the adults in Charlie Brown or something along those lines.)

I haven't found any discussion from Lin about these lyrics. Has anyone else? What to you think?

I'm all about giving sad historical context today - King George III was problematic and awful as a ruler in many undeniable ways, but his mental illness is a really terrible case to read about. His condition was likely contributed to by multiple factors. During the time period of the end of the Revolutionary War, he lost two of his young sons (they were one and four, if memory serves). He was very fond of his children, and utterly devastated by this. (A couple of decades later, he also lost a daughter whom he was very close to, which contributed directly to his further insanity and decline.) In his later bouts of madness, he would hallucinate that his two sons were there, carry on conversations with them, mistake things like pillows as being one of his sons in the room, etc. There are widely varying theories as to what he actually suffered diagnosis-wise, since mental health was a non-existent field at the time. Historians have posited bipolar disorder, porphyria, arsenic poisoning, or a combination of similar things. As the other comment says, he would go through periods of extreme mania, speaking for hours at a time until he was exhausted and foaming at the mouth, and writing prodigiously. The treatment physicians gave him probably exacerbated his condition and made it worse, rather than helping. He's great comic relief in the show, and the nonsense lyrics likely are in part because he's a fool, but could also represent those bouts of madness. Additionally, it gives an easy way for him to order people to join in mindlessly, as to him they are nothing but subjects - the ensemble that he calls upon when he says, "everybody!" doesn't have to recite complicated verse, it's easy, cutesy "da da da da daaaa," but he's still exerting absolute control over them. And, of course, it's a reference to 60s Brit pop. layers of meaning lol

You'll Be Back - Wikipedia
October 20, 2025 - The melody is reprised twice in the play for King George's other two numbers: "What Comes Next?", in which the king ultimately refuses to help the recently freed United States if it struggles with its independent leadership; and "I Know Him", in which the king seems concerned that John Adams will not be as effective a president as George Washington was, before expressing disdainful amusement at the thought of the United States becoming divided over Adams' leadership. While the majority of songs in the musical Hamilton are in the genre of hip-hop, R&B, or soul, this one is described by Vibe as being in the style of the Beatles.
