So there we were - the only house on the street with power through a big storm when suddenly my my power went out.
The generator ran maybe another 10 mins with no power in the house before shutting down.
Any restart attempt gives a locked rotor shutdown error. It did restart for me once, but then when switching back to auto dies again.
I replaced 12V battery this morning with a new one hoping that could have been it, but nope, still giving the locked rotor error.
Any advice? Found scattered and complicated discussions of this error in other places.
Generator is serviced annually. Just had its service a month ago. Oil is fine.

Folks,
If you’re buying a generator, be sure to buy it from someone that’s an approved repair company. I now need to pay someone else to come and diagnostics to see what’s going on prior to trying to claim on warranty. But first trying to troubleshoot myself for my own sanity.
I need some help troubleshooting issues with my generator. Generator is 18 months old, always starts exercises just fine. On the recent outage it started and picked up load just fine, ran for about 8hrs and then cut out. After restarting it would run for anything from 20-60min and then cut out again with the same low engine speed error.
The engine struggles to hold RPM, +- 100RPM, backfires, and idles really rough. It’s a 30kw generator with around 30% load. Kohler 30RCLA.
Had gas pressure checked - it was fine. Changed the plugs - looked fine. Checked the oil - all fine.
Attaching some videos, what do you think?
Thanks in advance.
